t.ryan Posted 26 May , 2022 Share Posted 26 May , 2022 JMB I rotated the photo and this is the best angle I can see of it. I would agree 7778 for sure. Cheers, TR
JMB1943 Posted 26 May , 2022 Author Share Posted 26 May , 2022 (edited) TR, Thanks for seconding the resolution. Regards, JMB Edit: We currently stand at 131, including those Bayonets (12) with incomplete numerals. That represents 1.31% and my feeling is that we’ll end up with 1.5 - 2.5% in 5-10 yrs time. trajan Posted 18 June , 2022 Share Posted 18 June , 2022 And maybe time JMB for a rewrite of your article???!!! Seriously, with all this new data you are getting close to that interesting matter of 'survivial rate' for all interested in these and other bayonets. JMB1943 Posted 18 June , 2022 Author Share Posted 18 June , 2022 (edited) Trajan, SAY WHAT??? I have not even put pen to paper regarding survival rates, just have a Table of the Smiling Tiger numbers. Wish now that I had started logging the Vickers when I became interested in bayonet & joined GWF. Of course, unless they are numbered it can be difficult to be sure that the usual suspects don’t get re-recorded. Only having the Siamese bayos would make for a very short article. Happy to be corrected if wrong... But, yes, you do have data for a survival rate analysis for these ones. You know how many were made, you know their history, you have the evidence - IIRC - that when surplus they were sold 'down under' and you have a very full list of the numbers still around - at least those in the hands of, or known to, collectors... t.ryan Posted 19 June , 2022 Share Posted 19 June , 2022 JMB, Just when things looked to be slowing down, another smiling cat face has shown up on the bay here. No 9385 for you to check in and add if appropriate. Cheers, TR

Julian Trajan, If you put it like that……..I suppose that I do have enough to write up. Many thanks for your ever-present encouragement. Stewart Stewart, Thanks, but the thread is not concerned with individual Patt. 07 bayonet per se. Please have a look at this thread starting at the very first post to see what we are trying to do. t.ryan Posted 30 July , 2022 Share Posted 30 July , 2022 JMB The smiling tigers have been a bit quite here of late. Have one new number, 8104 and another one to check, 2833 before adding. There were three for sale here on the bay a couple of weeks ago but all those numbers were already listed. Cheers, TR

Steve1871 Posted 1 September , 2022 Share Posted 1 September , 2022 My first Siamese Tiger piece, the scabbard is very interesting to me, even a little damaged, it is all steel, yet is exact copy/ mold of a Britt 07’. Including chape and final, along with “ fake”? Holes from where staples were, bad part is scabbard is pushed in on the frog stud, bayonet still fits, traces of paint are clear. Recently got off eBay, was ex Brit issue
JMB1943 Posted 1 September , 2022 Author Share Posted 1 September , 2022 Steve, Thanks for posting this one. A little difficult to read, but I would say 3958, which is a new one (if correct). Regarding the “exact copy” scabbard, apparently the original leather rotted away very quickly in the humid, tropical climate. The Siamese removed the staples from the top/bottom fittings and brazed those fittings onto a rolled sheet-steel body. I have only ever seen about 3 of the original leather scabbards for sale. Steve1871 Posted 1 September , 2022 Share Posted 1 September , 2022 Thank’s JMB these are sellers photos, it sitting in my post now, be awhile before home again to play with my new toy here Thanks for explaining the scabbard to me.
