This one appeared on a Facebook page I follow . Located in the UK from what I worked out. Looks like we are riding another wave of interest in these Bayonets and Rifles . Oh and I bought myself a Christmas present . Reproduction of our favourite vice .

if I don’t find another one before hand .  Merry Christmas to you all and a happy new year . Cheers Phil

Phil B, it goes well with your collection.

The new smiling tiger is number 8363 and looks like another for JMB to add to the list when he checks it out.

JMBs post on the smiling tiger bayonet seems to have created a fair bit of interest and has seen a few more of them than usual changing hands as you say.

Just hope it is not also driving up the price to steep at the same time. If they actually got the $599 as stated for the last one sold on the bay here, then that has doubled the price in no time.

Merry Christmas and the best for the new year.

Cheers,

TR

JMB,

Thanks for the new up to date list, nice and easy to read and the tally is growing.

We are heading off to Canberra for two weeks prior to Christmas so will check out the usual spots and maybe check out the progress on the War Memorial renovations and hopefully make time for another visit.

On page 192 of Ian Skennerton,s new book "The Lee Enfield" is a nice clear but small picture of smiling tiger number 6801, another survivor in Queensland I presume.

Cheers till after the break.

TR,

Just when I think the list is fully updated, #6801 appears (or do I mean 6810/8610/8601/1068…….?).

That’s OK, I’m nothing if not flexible.

Enjoy the walkabout!

Regards,

JMB

Shall Do.

Wish I could transpose my age numbers just as easy as I sometimes transpose other numbers, but for keeps.

Cheers now.

Hi Phil B,

I see Southern Cross Militaria up your neck of the woods is advertising a smiling tiger bayonet along with a new lot of O7 bayonets on there site.
Away from my computer so can’t make anything out on the smiling tiger other than all metal scabbard and selling price $395.
Thought you might like a look.

Cheers,

TR

Will have to let JMB confirm but I would say smiling tiger number 145; which is not on the list, so should be a new one and the first in the 100s.

Cheers,

Just when you thought it was over for Christmas, bought this one I mentioned last time from a gun dealer in Queensland today. This makes number 9 in my collection. Merry Christmas to all and hope to see more finds in the new year. We still have over 9800 to find ***

Phil B,

Is that the smiling tiger from Southern Cross Militaria, if so you hunt well. Number 7626 by me and another new number.

Another one has just popped up for sale on the bay here, with metal scabbard. It is smiling tiger number 9459, another new number.

JMB, you are a great cat fisher, your list just keeps hauling them in.

Cheers to all and keep clear of this darn Covid.

Yes that’s the one I wanted to go look at the other day, I got a run out that way in the truck so took the opportunity to check it out and a couple of other things and decided to buy it. Looking at the prices on fleece bay I’m sitting on a gold mine with my 9 tigers, need to find a rifle to go with the new one *** . Can’t have it getting lonely

Phil B, JMB

Have you checked the photos on the 9459 smiling tiger; which is also advertised as being up in your neck of the woods.

Although it is expensive, it is one of the nicest ones I have seen on JMBs post, near too good even the wood grips.

JMB thanks for letting us be part of what as turned out to be a very interesting cat hunt with blokes from all parts of the globe, take care all.

Cheers,

TR

I've seen many of these 'Siamese' 07's for sale over the years here in the UK, especially this year... 5 in the last two months. 'Smiling Tigers' have never really caught my interest. Reading through this post however, I find the genre quite interesting. As I was reading through this thread last evening, I remembered where I had seen the latest one for sale. So... here it is...

Good Christmas morning to you, Sgt-major, and thanks for the Tiger photo!

I read that as 9903, and it was already in the list posted on Dec 5th, so unfortunately not a new one.

They are a nice variation on the regular Patt. ‘07 bayonet, and chasing the serial numbers keeps me off the streets.

The numbers trickle in so slowly that I sometimes wonder if they will ever stop and if there will ever be a final “total”.

Regards,

JMB

PS. Could you make that TWO AND A HALF lottery tickets?

JMB1943...

I visit the website which that 07 is on about the same time each month, so it's fair to say that it's been sitting there for about a month. What is the average price of a Siamese 07 in USA ?? That example is tagged at a little over £200.

I’ve been paying around $360 Aus plus postage for ones I find in Australia. However there have been a couple of sellers trying their luck at around $600!aus . The last couple I bought was $400 Aus and that is understandable with the higher prices these guys are pushing for. But take note this $600 ones have been in the market place for some time and will probably remain for some time longer. Same thing is happening with the rifles . I don’t plan on selling any of my stuff however I do enjoy watching my investments grow ***

Phil B...

The average for a Siamese here in the UK is between £200 / £250. So the one i posted is within that frame. There are a couple of---. normally respected dealers... who seem to be trying-it-on : AKA---> hyping the prices with certain items... pushing their luck. As you mention, those items seem to remain on their stock list for quite some time.

From what I can see on recent sales here, the smiling tiger bayonets and similar vintage standard British 1907 bayonets are both selling at a similar price which is getting up around the $350s. I just bought a nice WSC 4/44 bayonet and scabbard for $280 delivered but those prices are disappearing fast.

As we can see from most of the smiling tiger bayonet photos on this post, most have suffered with some degree of wood rot and rust so I thought I would post a better photo of smiling tiger 9459 which I first posted a few days back, just to show how good of condition this bayonet is in. It is for sale on the top side of the price range but looks a very nice bayonet.

JMB I believe I have a new smiling tiger number 6819 to add to the list.

Cheers,

TR
