JMB1943 Posted 8 March , 2022 Author Share Posted 8 March , 2022 TR, Once again you astound us with another cache of seven new serials. You have probably listed about 30 in the last 4 weeks, so do you have a feel for what % are from the different sources--- Facebook / Ebay.au / gunstores etc. that are available? Regards, JMB
t.ryan Posted 9 March , 2022 Share Posted 9 March , 2022 JMB I do not use Facebook, so can count that out. Most of these have came from military dealer sites both sold or for sale probably 60%, eBay 15%, old bayonet forum sites 15%, auction house sites the rest but only a guess, plus a lot of wet weather time to look. Sometimes you find something once then can't find it again. Quiet a few were sold from one big dealer in Atlanta. U.S. Over and out for now. t.ryan Posted 27 March , 2022 Share Posted 27 March , 2022 JMB Back on the lookout for smiling tigers again. A couple of new numbered bayonets showed up on the bay in Queensland here while I was out of town, and I came across one other to check out for the list. 979, 6485, 7600. JMB1943 Posted 27 March , 2022 Author Share Posted 27 March , 2022 Mr. Ryan, Your time on walkabout has obviously not harmed your cognitive skills! Thanks for those three new examples. Regards, JMB
t.ryan Posted 5 April , 2022 Share Posted 5 April , 2022 JMB Only picked up 1 bayonet for myself whilst on walkabout, seen a few but like everywhere else the prices are getting beyond what one is willing to pay. Did get to the Aust. War Museum in Canberra, plenty to see there but at the moment they have a lot of it packed away while doing extensive renovations. At least the military arms fairs are back on now so looking forward to getting along to one soon. A couple of new numbers for the list if you do not have them, 2411 & 5960. t.ryan Posted 27 April , 2022 Share Posted 27 April , 2022 JMB Things have been a bit slow on the smiling tigers over the past few weeks, but still looking. I have not seen 7999 before so its the number from today's search. Cheers, TR.
JMB1943 Posted 28 April , 2022 Author Share Posted 28 April , 2022 Mr Ryan, Thanks for that. These tiger sightings have slowed to a a very weak trickle also in the Northern Hemisphere. Regards, JMB
t.ryan Posted 29 April , 2022 Share Posted 29 April , 2022 (edited) Hi Mattr82' Nice hooky bayonet and scabbard. Probably should have started a new post or added it to a recent 1907 hooky bayonet post. This post as you can see is completely tied up with the amount of 1920 Contract Siamese (smiling tiger) 1907 bayonets that are surviving. Cheers, TR. t.ryan Posted 29 April , 2022 Share Posted 29 April , 2022 JMB Another smiling tiger has just made an appearance for sale here, nice condition with standard 07 leather scabbard & healthy price tag. No 9233 appears to be a new one for the list, they are still out there. Cheers, TR
JMB1943 Posted 1 May , 2022 Author Share Posted 1 May , 2022 (edited) TR, Thanks for 9233, they seem to be trickling in now at the rate of 1 per week, and that has me thinking. Currently have 113 fully numbered and 12 partially numbered. Suppose that all 10,000 still exist--we wouldn't know until about 2212. Suppose that only 1,000 still exist-- we wouldn't know until about 2039, and even then we couldn't be sure that there were not more to come. VERY doubtful that I shall still be around in 2039, so somebody else (looking at you Mr. Ryan) will be in charge of the abacus. t.ryan Posted 1 May , 2022 Share Posted 1 May , 2022 JMB Thanks for the offer but as I am staring my 75th year in the eye, I doubt that I will be able to fill that roll either. Did you note No 2411 and 5960 I posted on Wednesday just before Mattr82 posted the Hooky bayonet, he then started a new post with it. t.ryan Posted 2 May , 2022 Share Posted 2 May , 2022 Yes, they are both on the list. 9233 pictured above has a price of au $499.00, It does not have the full metal scabbard, nor any bids at the moment. Cheers, TR

t.ryan Posted 23 May , 2022 Share Posted 23 May , 2022 JMB Things have been a bit slow on the smiling cats for a while so found these three that do not appear to be on the list. 714, 2784 and 5351 for you to check and add if ok. Sorry for the blury photo's, a bit small to start with. Cheers, TR
