Mametz wood.1st time there & It was just the contrast of me,Bruce & Garron sittin there in total silence, trying to imagine what went on there before the birds stopped singing.

thats when kevin came in [bad french accent]"gordon bennit"[/bad frech accent]

i got that on my mobile

During all that he only thing on my mind was L/CPL Harry Fellows poem,

'Mametz Wood 1916 and 1984'

the last lines are

Where once there was war,

now peace reigns supreme,

and the birds sing again in Mametz

Off topic, the memories of the friendliness & comradeship of the blokes on the tour ,to a total stranger ,made my wee trip something to put on my to do again list.

Dave, the feeling is mutual mate. This was the first time I had met all the pals on tour except one. The fact that we all got on so well right from the get go really made the trip that extra bit more special.

Thanks guys, it was a fantastic tour.

for the record, this was one of my best ever trips, the friendships made will last forever i'm sure, the early morning forays, the late evening trips, the rum ration, but last but not least the reason why we went, a common bond of careing for those who went before and paid the ultimate price, to them all, we will be eternally gratefull. We will remember them.

My memories (no real order)

1 Mametz wood, the birds singing and harry fellows poem running through my mind, then kev entering

2 Flat Iron Copse Cem, seeing the two brothers side by side.

3. meeting some great people who hopefully i will stay in contact with for a long time.

4. the rum ration, great place to have a drink.

5. the nahn bread (spelling), never trust me to cook anything :)
