neverforget Posted 9 February , 2023 Share Posted 9 February , 2023 As well as being awarded his first D.S.O. as a Commander, he was given a trophy by the enemy Captain for the same action.

neverforget Posted 9 February , 2023 Share Posted 9 February , 2023 (edited) Ok. He was given O.B.E. after the war. He served briefly in WW2 as a non-combatant, but didn't live to see the end of it. His actions in W.W.1 were against subs, and later, Bolshies. He was known for fortitude, and extreme coolness. neverforget Posted 9 February , 2023 Share Posted 9 February , 2023 (edited) Was largely responsible for saving nearly 30 men from almost certain death. Was awarded a separate medal for his part in that. Edited 9 February , 2023 by neverforget

neverforget Posted 9 February , 2023 Share Posted 9 February , 2023 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Worsley Well done Uncle George. Easy to see with hindsight that the clues were there. The saintly connection referred to the following: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_Saint_Stanislaus Fortitutude and extreme coolness are obvious given hindsight. If you have Amazon Prime there is a great programme about him, and expedition in general. It's called Shakleton's Captain. Highly recommended. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Shackletons-Captain-Leanne-Pooley/dp/B085MLN7NV Picture taken from here:https://www.aboutorkney.com/2020/08/20/frank-worsleys-visits-to-orkney/

Uncle George Posted 13 February , 2023 Share Posted 13 February , 2023 We can’t help but notice that there’s a great deal of discontent abroad this winter. Grant Shapps has been very cross about it. Anyway, who is this ? ? ?
Knotty Posted 13 February , 2023 Share Posted 13 February , 2023 Couple of good WIT’s I’ve missed out on participating in UG, due to my router going Kaput the internet in the Knott household has been intermittent for days and gave up the ghost last night…new hub in place now👍 As yet I have no idea to the current WIT, UG, but Grant Shapps aka Michael Green 4 cabinet positions in 5 months, that’s a ripe question for a pub quiz……. Uncle George Posted 13 February , 2023 Share Posted 13 February , 2023 Perhaps a clue might be in order. ilkley remembers Posted 14 February , 2023 Share Posted 14 February , 2023 (edited) I see that nobody has got this yet so I will take a punt at the answer 17 hours ago, Uncle George said: Perhaps a clue might be in order. The only unions outlawed in the UK have been those associated with Police and Armed Forces. Am I heading in the right direction? If so I would guess that it is a Police related question because of the disputes which occu rred during the First World War. ilkley remembers Posted 14 February , 2023 Share Posted 14 February , 2023 Beaten to the draw again I suspect. Tommy Theil was dismissed but later reinstated. Seems to have been dismissed a second time. Later became an MP Wiki suggests that he was Metropolitan Police but in fact he was City of London
