Uncle George Posted 8 February , 2023 Share Posted 8 February , 2023 Yes, Edith Stein: philosopher, nurse, nun, martyr and saint (under the name Saint Teresia Benedicta a Cruce) of the Roman Catholic Church. "I no longer have a life of my own," she wrote at the beginning of the First World War, having done a nursing course and gone to serve in an Austrian field hospital. This was a hard time for her, during which she looked after the sick in the typhus ward, worked in an operating theatre, and saw young people die. When the hospital was dissolved, in 1916, she followed Husserl as his assistant to the German city of Freiburg, where she passed her doctorate summa cum laude (with the utmost distinction) in 1917, after writing a thesis on "The Problem of Empathy." Quote from here: https://www.vatican.va/news_services/liturgy/saints/ns_lit_doc_19981011_edith_stein_en.htm As you say, she was murdered at Auschwitz in 1942. neverforget Posted 9 February , 2023 Share Posted 9 February , 2023 Yes, I've found him, but will hand over to John as he clearly knew him before I did. Wagnerian indeed. 😊
Knotty Posted 9 February , 2023 Share Posted 9 February , 2023 Got him at last August Von Parseval, a very underestimated inventor and designer, here is his wiki entry, you need to follow the airship design for more info unless you have something to link to IR😁 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_von_Parseval
ilkley remembers Posted 9 February , 2023 Share Posted 9 February , 2023 Well done @Knottyaward yourself a Holy Grail for your endeavours whilst @neverforgetcan have his feet anointed with water from the Holy Spring. A fairly rapid solution to this Wit saved you from a rather poor joke about Flower Maidens in Wagners Parsifal. Parseval was the inventor of the Kite balloon sometime known as 'A Maidens Joy' and the photo is from Wikimedia Commons whatever that is!
