JOSTURM Posted 4 March , 2006 Share Posted 4 March , 2006 I have a fairly complete set of the Roll of Honour pages published in the Illustrated London News 1914-1918. If you would like me to search for a photo of an Officer killed during the Great War then please reply to this post. I need rank, name, regiment and date of death details. There's always a possibility he may have been recorded in this publication. N.B. it may take me a few days to reply so please be patient. Regards, Steve Bickmore Steve, Hi, i have a photo of the 3rd Battalion, London Rifle Brigade Officers from December 1917 taken at Blackdowne, but there is no list of names. There are 39 officers. Someone suggested it may have originally been printed in the Illustrated London News or similar. Can you assist ? Regards Peter

Stephenb Posted 6 March , 2006 Author Share Posted 6 March , 2006 Hi Jonathan, unfortunatley I couldn't find any photo entries for your officers. All I came across was an obituary write-up for Lt. F. C. James, 1st Bn. Berkshire Regiment in De Ruvignys. Steve

Stephenb Posted 13 March , 2006 Author Share Posted 13 March , 2006 Any luck yet Steve ? Peter Peter, I can confirm, unfortunatley, that the picture isn't in the Illustrated London News. I'd suggest it was in The Sphere. I have a few volumes of this magazine, but not for the period you want. It has reasonably regular photo entries for officer groups (nearly always named). rflory Posted 13 March , 2006 Share Posted 13 March , 2006 Jonathan asked for information on, and a photo of, Lt. J. P. Marshall, “D” By. 282nd Bde. (SDGW states B/282BDE.), 04/11/1917, DOW Jonathan: Here is what I have on Lt John Percival Marshall, RFA. If you would like a photo of him PM with your email and I will send you a scan. Student at Wycliffe College from 1909 to 1912 (2nd XI Cricket and Football Colours; Treasurer of Literary Society; passed the Senior Cambridge) "A boy of very unassuming and gentle nature but possessed both character and ability." "A violin player of no mean merit." On leaving school was a pupil to the Humber works at Coventry. During the evening he took his London Matric. Entered RMA, Woolwich in late 1914 Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, RFA on 27 Oct 1915 Went to France with D Battery, 282 Brigade, RFA in early 1916 and participated in the Somme operations and the battles of Vimy Ridge and Messines. He, his battery commander another subaltern, and some gunners suffered gas poisoning from a gas shell that fell in the battery area. His battery captain wrote: "He saw to the sending of all these to the dressing station, and also communicated with Headquarters, before going to the Station for attention. Had he chosen to neglect his duty, and instead had gone to the dressing station immediately on being gassed he would have possessed a good chance of surviving and as an experienced soldier he knew this well." He died of gas poisoning on 4 November 1917 and buried in Ypres Military Cemetary. Sources: Old Wycliffians - 1882-1937; Wycliffe and the War 1914-1918. Regards. SKBob Posted 21 April , 2006 Share Posted 21 April , 2006 Steve when you get a chance - looking for 2nd Lt William Harry Parish 7th Bn Norfolk Regiment died 30/11/17. No grave, is on the Cambrai Memorial Louverval. Son of William & Emma Parish Buxton Rd Norwich. He appears to be the only member of the Norwich (Post Office) Telephone Manager's staff killed in WW1, which I find strange as I would have thought that telephone engineers of service age would have been much sought after in the combat areas to keep the comms open and thus likely casualties. Anyway, if you have anything it would be great. Many thanks for your time. Bob
