Hello,

Would it be possible to scan me a 'painting' from Illustrated London News of Lieutenant Philip M Young of the Kings Liverpool Regiment meeting his death on the German wire, at the battle of Neuve Chapelle ?

I would assume this painting of Young is to be found in one of the magazines for 1915, but I am not sure which one it is.

Regards

David Blanchard

Is Margetts' other degree 'ALCP'? I haven't been able to discover what it means, although he was a science teacher. post-7552-1136820915.jpg This is the picture I have, taken soon after he was commissioned.

Dave,

here's a picture of Margetts.

Enjoy ;-)

Hi Andy,

it should help a lot (I hope) as I took it from a newspaper fiche, so very likely his parents used the same newspaper to publish an obituary.

Hi Steve,

I know Reginald Hugh Lawson's award of the M.C. and his mention in despatches is in the Sidcup & District times and I believe a photograph as well. Presumably his brothers obit is also in the same paper, just have not had the time as of late to get there and check the papers, my silly season at work.

Peter,

I can confirm, unfortunatley, that the picture isn't in the Illustrated London News. I'd suggest it was in The Sphere. I have a few volumes of this magazine, but not for the period you want. It has reasonably regular photo entries for officer groups (nearly always named).

Steve

Illustrated War News apparently, Steve

Hi Steve

Found your post after doing a search. Are you still offering look-ups?

If so, would you be so kind as to see if there is mention of the following soldier:

Lance Corporal GEORGE J JACKSON

4161, 2nd Bn, Leinster Regiment

Died on 12 April 1917

Buried at Arras

(husband of Martha Jackson of 13 Calmington Rd, Camberwell).

I hope that's enough info to go on - would be ever so grateful for any help.

Many thanks

Hi Steve

Do you have anything on the following 2 Officers who were brothers:

Neville Harris Broadway

Lieut

2nd Lancers

KIA 1/12/1917 near Cambrai

Hugh Alexander Broadway

Lieut

15th Coy Royal Engineers

DOW 30/03/1915 near Neuve Chapelle

Could I ask also if the paper covers Other Ranks. I have 2 brothers mentioned on an Edinburgh Church memorial who lived, enlisted and served in 2 London Regiments and I just can't find the connection between where they lived and enlisted and the Church in Edinburgh. I'll only put their names on if you're happy to look them up.

Regards

Hi, Steve

I'm fairly new to this forum, and only just found this thread. No idea if you do look-ups anymore.

Just wondering if the Illustrated London News ever published photos of those from other forces? In my case, I'm looking for a New Zealander.

Lieut. John Mackenzie

12/160 Auckland Infantry Battalion, NZEF

DOW 22 February 1917 near Estaires

Regards,

Allie
