Steve, I have currently got a posting running under "Soldier" on Lieutenant Bennet Burleigh of the 7th Lancashire Fusiliers, killed Gallipoli, 15 July 1915.

When I did a "Google" on his name, it said that he was mentioned in the Illustrated London News of 25 September 1915.

When you have a moment, I wonder if you could have a look and see if Lieut Burleigh is featured.

Many thanks

Moriaty

Hello Moriaty,

I have found him on the Roll of Honour for that date. A one-liner summary note at the bottom says "..Lieut. Bennet Burleigh was son of the late Mr. Bennet Burleigh, the famous war-correspondent, and was himself a journalist."

Will post a scan at the weekend.

Hope you're keeping well,

Regards,

Steve

Stephen

I have 12 Thiepval Men who have their photos in the Illustrated London News I can give you the ILN issue dates if that is helpful.

If you are able to meet the request you could email me through the forum and I can send you a list with dates.

Hello Steve

Just on the off chance, could you see if there is a photo of this chap:

CALDWELL, GAVIN RALSTON MURE

Age: 21

Date of Death: 09/10/1918

Cannot see him, but if you have any more summary info then please PM me and I'll look through other material. I have an obvious interest in the Guards.

Thanks Steve, I am keeping well and busy. I am off to Gallipoli at the end of April and was looking for a "local" soldier who I could research and follow in his footsteps. It was quite by chance that I came across Bennet Burleigh who lived very close to my house in London and so I am on a crash course trying to find out about him and his fascinating family

Hi Alan,

a quick check reveals that Lt. Herbert Martin is listed in the 7th August 1915 edition.

Unfortunately there is nothing for your other relative as he was not an officer.
