Jim, who do you need from Belgium? I may be able to rouse a local from Ghent, and Brussels, and am working on finding someone in the Froyennes area.

Thank you for the approach. There must be loads needed in Belgium as my research includes Belgian and French female casualties. But identified so far, and where I haven't found a photograph on the Web, are :-

BRUSSELS

-  Gabrielle Aline Eugenie Marie Ghislaine PETIT executed 1st April 1916 and buried in Schaerbeek cemetery.

GHENT

- Marie DE SMET, executed 15th September 1917. She is buried in Wester cemetery, Ghent. Also a commemorative plaque on the wall of her house in Rue d'Anvers, Ghent.

- Leonie Pauline RAMELOO (or RAMMELOO), executed 12th September 1917 and is buried in Boekhoute cemetery, Assenede, Ghent.

Both executed together along with a man, Isidoor van Vlaanderen. I have his headstone photo too.

Hope these are OK for you. I have already passed thanks on to the photographer. He also said he will hopefully get up to Wester Cemetery in the next few weeks

Accepted. I must make myself clearer in future. But very pleased with the two photographs (Rammeloo and Schatteman). If you could pass me the name of the photographer I would be happy to add his name to them as an acknowledgement and hopefully protect his copyright.

He is happy for anyone to use his photos. He supplies countless numbers to people whenever they ask. As well as Cemeteries that have CWGC burials, he loves to visit little Churchyards of village Cemeteries that dont tend to get avid researchers but he has said that he will now keep an eye out for any females who were a victim of the War.

Also he sent me photos of a big Memorial for Gabrielle Petit in the middle of Brussels, which is odd because I hadnt even mentioned her to him.

Hi Jim, not sure if this is any good to you... I bookmarked this article a while ago, I must have been looking up the Southport nurse at the time but this is clearly a different nurse with the same name. Taken from Hull Daily Mail 27 November 1918.

She seems to be the Helen Taylor who died on the 23rd November 1918 in Bridlington. I have her in my records but as a slight anomoly for I got her name from the St. John Ambulance Gazette and also the Nurses Memorial Appeal. Every indication was that she was a civilian nurse but other than census, family and probate information that is where my research stalled. As a VAD quarter mistress I don't know if she would have time for nursing although the reference in your news article does more than imply that she had. Strange that no family members were mentioned in the article as having attended the funeral as there were plenty around Bridlington. There is no BRCS card so far as I can see but that is not unusual as they are not complete.

The first photo includes Prudence de Smets name, BUT I have also noticed, and had it confirmed by one of my Belgian friends, that there are also 3 other females names on these panels. Philomene de Pryck, Coleta de Noel and Zoe de Vuyst. As can be seen on the photo, there are several other panels where other names could be. I have made enquiries and will report back on any findings.

Within Westerbegraafplaats, the civilian graves had fallen into disrepair so the City decided to tidy all the known graves up and erect the Memorial to all the Gent civilians who died in WW1. The statue overlooks the Memorial.

TEMPTAGE  Thank you for the photographs. The listing of my Belgian female casualties I know to be incomplete so the three extra names, none of which I knew about, have now been added. Theoretically I have already researched my Belgian nurses (as best I can) so back I will go for these three. Out of interest, I am currently researching French female casualties having completed as far as I can the British (and Commonwealth), American, Belgian and Czechoslovakian ones.

IANJONESNCL  -  Here are my requirements up there in Northumbria.

DURHAM,

Chester-le-Street

Lillie LIDDELL, VAD, died Egypt 29/9/18. Her name is on a newish memorial in Chester-le Street market place. Her name may show as Liddle, Wears (maiden name) or Lowes. I am aware of her name on the war memorial and on a memorial within the parish church (as I have those).

Jarrow

Ann Isabella LAUGHLIN, died 15th June 1915. She died of shock after a bombing raid and is buried in grave 693, section K, Jarrow cemetery. She is buried with her mother, Ann Fraser. I don't believe that there is a headstone but a photograph of the unmarked plot required.

Sunderland

Gertrude Ann PATRICK, died 1/4/16 died in a bombing raid. She is buried in Mere Knolls Cemetery, Torver Crescent, Fulwell, Sunderland.

Elizabeth Ann RANSON also died in the bombing raid (aged 5) and is buried in the same cemetery.

Hi Jim

Who are you after in Arras?

John

National Notre Dame military cemetery chapel

The original wooden (German) grave marker is said to be here for Louise Marie Henriette Jeanne BETTIGNIES, died 27th September 1918.

Arras Military Cemetery. Julie Olifie Joseph SABRE, otherwise known as Sister Veronique of the Order du Precieux-Sang, is buried in plot 4, grave 152. She died 23rd June 1915 in an enemy bombardment. There is an outside chance that Laetitia Angele HOURIEZ, also known as Sister Sainte Jeanne of the Augustine Order du Precieux-Sang (died 23rd June 1915 in enemy bombardment) and Marie Vincente le Jalle, also known as Sister Saint-Honore (died in enemy bombardment on the 29th June 1915) may be nearby. All three were nurses of the nun variety.
