More clues??? M. He turned politician after leaving the War Office. 1 hour ago, Uncle George said: Is it to do with the demobilisation scheme? Indirectly, although that scheme is very relevant to what he was doing. Ron
Uncle George Posted 3 January , 2020 Share Posted 3 January , 2020 Is he Desmond Morton?
Ron Clifton Posted 3 January , 2020 Share Posted 3 January , 2020 I'm afraid not, UG. Morton's connection with Churchill was closer, and later, than that of my man. Ron
Uncle George Posted 3 January , 2020 Share Posted 3 January , 2020 He looks a little like Philip Cunliffe-Lister. C-L was awarded the MC, served in the Ministry of National Service and became a Cabinet member. But he was a lawyer, not a Civil Servant ... Ron Clifton Posted 3 January , 2020 Share Posted 3 January , 2020 Not him either, UG. After he left the Army, he worked in a ministry, but not strictly as a civil servant. Ron
Knotty Posted 5 January , 2020 Share Posted 5 January , 2020 Hi Ron I hope this is the chap, Ronald Gorell Barnes who after the war founded the Army Education Corps, he was also a distinguished cricketer in his time, as well as a newspaper editor, a poet and writer (link below) and a hereditary peer, 3rd Baron Gorell. The clip is of him reflecting on the dramatic changes in the world. http://forgottenpoetsofww1.blogspot.com/2018/12/ronald-gorell-barnes-3rd-baron-gorell.html That one had me going for quite some time well played . Ron Clifton Posted 5 January , 2020 Share Posted 5 January , 2020 Well done, Knotty! It is indeed Lord Gorell. His papers relating to the foundation of the Royal Army Educational Corps, edited by Jim Beach, are this year's offering from the Army Records Society. For his efforts he was made an OBE, later promoted to CBE, but as a hereditary peer he had no need of a knighthood. Among his non-military and non-educational interests was that he was at one time the President of the National Council for the Unmarried Mother and Her Child, and the co-President (with Agatha Christie) of the Detection Club. michaeldr Posted 7 January , 2020 Share Posted 7 January , 2020 He looks like an actor in a pose Could the common distinction be a change of name from one too Germanic sounding?
neverforget Posted 7 January , 2020 Share Posted 7 January , 2020 Just now, michaeldr said: He looks like an actor in a pose Could the common distinction be a change of name from one too Germanic sounding? Good guess, but Knotty is closer to the truth. He wasn't an actor, but an artist of sorts.

Alisonmallen62 Posted 7 January , 2020 Share Posted 7 January , 2020 Thank you - getting through pneumonia which is a pain. I dnt know but I thought this may have been either a rumour or imagined story about an officer who dreamt J of A had appeared to him a bit like the angel of mons? I think he had a sword he thought was hers? Dnt know where else to go with it now though lol.
Knotty Posted 7 January , 2020 Share Posted 7 January , 2020 Hi both Sorry to say that it is nothing to do with religion or any form of dream or vision NF you should know by now that if I give a clue to start with it will be fairly obtuse😁 Alison as NF say just jump in, permission is not required😂, and get well soon.
