Well played NF, trust you were not up all night?

EH Shepard MC it was. Illustrator of  first and subsequent editions of Winnie-the-Pooh and Wind in the Willows, just to name a few. You can read the rest in the link below, the picture is taken from the front of his memoirs of serving on the Italian front called simply Shepard’s War.

Yay! I'm managing to maintain my strike rate of about one in a hundred. Usually my hunches lead me on a fool's errand.

Surprisingly, not so😊

Made valuable contributions in both world wars, and long afterwards.

Won the Distinguished Flying Cross in Ww1, and had a son killed in Ww2.

Has a knighthood.

I’m going to take a stab at this now and go out on a limb for William Wedgwood Benn 1st Viscount Stansgate (Father of Tony Benn), earned his DFC in WW1, and lost a son Michael in WW2.

the picture doesn’t fit so not as above..... bugg*r

Well played sir, Wackett it is.

"Father of the Australian aircraft industry". He has been described as "one of the towering figures in the history of Australian aviation."

I think a clue or two might help to get us moving.

A fine actor, Jack Hawkins. He appeared in a First war film which was inspired in part by this chap. Who is he ? ? ?

As far as I can find out JH appeared in only two Great War film entitled “Who Goes Next”, and, “Lawrence of Arabia”

As the first one is based on escaping from POW camp I will put my money on it being based on that. Sorry TEL fans.
