Edit:

George SHANE  death record quoted above...

If you  open it on Irish Genealogy George "Shane" you can look at the source image... which is what Tom has posted.

So, the Irish Indexers have read it as 'Shane'.

Do we agree with them?

Comparing the 'n' in compounder with surname it looks very similar-but it's dreadful script!

...but then the 'r' on the end is exact!

...letter 'o' in George is not same as 3rd letter in surname-joiners in different places

George

I think the writer has made a mistake in writing the surname and initially whote Sha*e.

He then tried to correct the 'a' into an 'o' by going over it and round a couple of times. It looks bolder than the other letters.

And then he spilt some ink on the '37'.

Dai and George, Its all very mysterious lads, thank you very much for your suggestions. I really do appreciate it.George if you followed through with your death registration it would lead you to the image I posted. Its one thing I often wondered are these death certs I post only accessible by people in Ireland?

I have to admit I never heard of a compounder before,

Thanks again for all the help lads. Great work!

Kind regards.

 Tom.

Morning

If researching on Ancestry and an Irish hit comes up it can sometimes be traced through a link to the Irish site-usually always for census returns not always for others-at least for me.

I do find your soldiers a challenge and know I go off on tangents at times but the real experts usually get you there!

Off to Northern France for four days so will be offline till Sunday

Best of luck in the meantime

George

Thanks George, please feel free to go off on a tangent anytime that suits, later thinking often finds vital clues not found by looking for the obvious.

Enjoy Northern France. It was always something I would like to have done but would not as I would be afraid, afraid I would want to stay there!!

The pals on this forum, including your good self of course, have found the unfindable, and without their empathy, goodwill and willingness to help, there would certainly have been Irishmen from the 26 counties that would remain forgotten. I am always mindful and thankful for this selfless help.

 Enjoy France and thanks again.

 Tom.

I tried to find this guy on FMP, without success, the writing is woeful altogether and disappearing. Can you help please?

I think he might be William Wisdom? Walker, but that is open to interpretation

Thank you very much for any help you can provide.

 Kind regards.

 Tom.

Just keeping you all up to date.

1914, and 1915, death certs have now been processed. 5 accepted by I.F.T.C.P., 51 new names added to my own databases and 280 causes of death added to the files. So  1916 is now next. In them will be not only the soldiers and Nurses etc, but also the rebels and civilians killed during the Rebelion. I have saved those certificates just to have for maybe a later project.

Now then lets go.

Thank you all!!

 Kind regards.

 Tom.

Also found 1892 RDF enlistment. Boer War Veteran probably with 2 RDF.

Think HMS Sutley is actually Sutlej.

British War and Victory Medal (no Star) in WW1 naval rolls. Dispensed "Ww" - War Widow ?

Yet to find his RN service record
