museumtom Posted 19 January , 2022 Author Share Posted 19 January , 2022 Thank you very much Mark, a truly epic find for which I am very thankful. Y'know we had written this lad off as being unfindable but it gives great satisfaction to finally nail him down. Thanks again Mark. Kindest regards. Tom. Mark1959 Posted 20 January , 2022 Share Posted 20 January , 2022 I do not think we can quite say that. I wold like more evidence. He seems a likely candidate. I will keep lateral thinking it. I am still looking for the Redmonds. Like Clancy there are a number of possibles but no evidence linking them to James C. So I have found more than 1 Redmond family with 3 of the 4 names (James, John, Lizzie, Sarah) in Ireland. There is one John Redmond that has Fold3 docs that looks a possible - his NoK is declared as Lizzie. He seems to have been a petty criminal. There is at least one James Redmond that was disharged with ignomony in the early 1900s. This might be a good reason for the alias. In each case the trail runs cold. So going down the why an alias route at the moment. Don't hold your breath. But as you know I am like a dog with a bone.
museumtom Posted 20 January , 2022 Author Share Posted 20 January , 2022 Thank you very much Mark. Your bones are well know and much deserved. Besides your exceptional finds on Clancy one thing that may have been overlooked Tanderagee (translates to **** to the wind) and Cadamstown is less than 3 miles so it must be him I reckon. Easier to use the more well known Cadamstown than trying to explain to an Englishman recruiter he was born in Tanderagee. John Redmond was never going to be easy with Ryan thrown in for good measure. Thanks again for all your help, I still do not know how you do it, but fair play to you for helping with the hardest ones.
museumtom Posted 8 February , 2022 Author Share Posted 8 February , 2022 And we are away again. May we have your help please? The only reason we are concentrating on this lad is because he is listed in Irelands Memorial Records and as far as George and myself can see he does not have WW1 service, are we wrong please? https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=gbm%2fwo96%2f0627%2f031%2f001&parentid=gbm%2fwo96%2f627%2f1364297 https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=GBM%2FWO96%2F0627%2F030%2F001&parentid=GBM%2FWO96%2F627%2F1364296

I'm guessing that someone putting the IMR together spotted the newspaper item you posted (or a similar one in another papers). There's no indication he was in the army at the time of his death.
