Just to say a big thanks to you Chris for creating this forum.

Whenever I chat to people about the Great War I always recommend they look in here. This forum has become a treasure trove of information and knowledge that is unique on the interweb, IMHO.

Good luck with the new ventures, I'm sure they will be as successful as this.

And, to the "new management", thanks for taking it on.

cheers

Baz

I would like to thank Alison Arnold, Peter Beckett, Terry Denham, Matt Dixon, Andrew Hesketh, Terry Reeves and Kate Wills in agreeing to provide us all with the best WW1 family one could ask for. You have done us proud.

But above all, I would like to thank Chris, not just for setting up the forum but coniue to guide us all through the Mother site - the most comprehensive guide to the Great War

Can I echo the last post. As a fairly new member I was scared silly that this fantastic example of how the internet can be such a powerful tool was to disappear almost as soon as I had discovered it. Many thanks to Chris for starting all of this and to all those making sure it continues.

I think that the number of posts on this thread shows the esteem in which Chris is held. A hard act to follow but I am sure the new team will fit well into Chris's shoes.

Thank you Chris for giving birth to this superb baby.

Many thanks to Chris for his idea and vision in driving it forward. We can all see what it has become - a preeminent site for sharing information on the subject of the Great War.

I have had great fun since joining, contributed a bit, and learnt a lot. All the best to the Moderators who are now carrying the baton, as it were.

So many people are so grateful that this site exists and I'm one of them. Reasearching my grandpa has been a task close to my heart. Wishing you well for the future, and all the best to the new team. I have enjoyed using the site and am constantly suprised by finding new material - just when I thought I'd found everything.

All the best. Gramps

Hi Chris

Having been on the forum since the beginning I would just like to thank you for your efforts on the GWF over the years. It has been greatly appreciated and without this site it would have been impossible to have met so many like minded people in different countries. Good luck with your future ventures.

Also thanks to the new ownesr for continuing with the website. Best of luck to them all.

Cheers

Andrew

I've nothing to add that hasn't been said already except to record my thanks to Chris for having the foresight and wherewithal to launch and maintain what has become such an incredible and valued resource and to the 'new' team for taking up the mantle.

Long may it prosper.

You should be extremely proud of yourself for putting together what is, undoubtedly, the best learning resource for the Great War on the internet. The forum has become for me, and no doubt many others, a daily part of life.

Good luck Chris, and many thanks for all the hard work you have invested into this excellent online community. Good luck also to the Mods who have stepped up to the plate to carry on Chris' good work.

As usual, late to the show. The fact that my membership number is low ... and that I have had many, many interchanges with the new command staff aside ... Chris you created an institution, novel in this very old world, where that institution became part of our daily lives .. changed and shaped us ... for many of us, helped maintain a link with our past among those who appreciated it.

To change lives for the better is an accolade far above gold or silver. There has been history and mirth ... cultural exchange ... food porn and ... well ... community.

I know my comments are way too far down on the thread to really count ... but you and your work are a wonder in the Internet age ... thank you.

You new command staff have deep shoes to fill. There was a time when we had daily correspondence ... but the trust ... and yes ... perhaps love of this institution is in you as well ... I am delighted to be here.

I know MO's comment was tongue in cheek but just to reassure anyone in doubt....

Chris is passing all donations in hand or which are in the pipeline to the the new owners to carry on the Forum as before. No donated funds were used to set up The Great War Forum Ltd.

Indeed it was meant in jest. I apologise if anybody thinks otherwise. And I repeat if there's anything I can do to help ? just ask "MO"

Flippin' 'eck, Chris....

Reading this must be like reading your own obituary :D

Did Mrs. B. see that comment you made about never working for anybody else again? Mmm.

On a serious note..... You've made a difference. Would that we could all say that.

Chris thank you.

new management thank you.

I dont know what I would do without our community- something we tend to take for granted....

Its almost like a part of the furniture, something familiar and welcomed.

Its more than a forum..

Long may she prosper.

Ivan.
