Hello Arthur,

I wish I had looked properly at your thread before submitting my question to the forum. I understand that you may not have this information available from your response to similar but on the off chance.

I am looking for any information/guidance on the battle insignia for the the MG Company and the Trench Mortar Battery for 90th Brigade, 30th Division.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello Anthony,

I am sorry my man but neither of your units are in the Identification Pamphlet.

Arthur

Hello Arthur,

I was wondering if you had any information on the insignia of the 6th KOSB for 1914-1915.

Although there is a ref to the Royal Scots in the thread there is nothing for the 13th battalion so I am guessing that it is not referred to in your source..............if however you do have information on ths battalion for 1916-1918 then that would be really interesting too,

many thanks

Rod

Here's a delightfully mothy tunic from my collection, thought to be Wilt's yeomanry, blue circle on right arm, Wessex Griffin on left.

Re the tunic, I think you will find that it is a Welsh Dragon - 38th (Welsh) Division sign and the blue circle is the battalion sign of the 13th (Service) Bn, The Welsh Regiment (2nd Rhonnda).

Oh the shame, I should have spotted the difference, four legs = Dragon, 2 legs = Griffin. (I think)

Interesting though as it came from a blacksmith/farrier in deepest Wiltshire. He'd hung it on a nail in his shop and got back on with his life. His Home Guard B/D blouse was on top.

Thanks Mike

I have the following information regarding 'Cloth Formation Insignia':

Major John Waring's Identification Pamphlet for WWI. It is a Military

Heraldry Society publication which has now been long out of print.

Details of British, Australian and Canadian insignia are given. They are

shown, with a reference to the colour, size and material that they are made from.

If this would assist anyone? I would be willing to search it for any

queries they may have.

Arthur

Dear Arthur, I have recently joined this forum after recommendations from a chumm, and was very interested in your post. I'm trying to gain some detail on Patches worn by the 40th Division and in particular the 119th Bde in that Div. I have one secondary source describing that 119 Bde wore variations on the Diamond from the Div insignia but no detail on size, colour and position worn and would be interested if the publication you describe had any further detail. This is to assit with reasearch I'm doing into relatives of a friend of mine. She wishes to replicate the badges to go in a frame with the photo of her relative (21st Middlesex - 119 Bde). My main interest is normaly DLI, but I helping out as she doesn't have much idea about things military. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any info you may turn up. Brilliant thread! I'm interested about the battle insignia in 90th Brigade, 30th Division also. Do you happen to have anything on 16th Manchesters? In March 1918?

Thank you! This verifies my earlier information. Is there any extra information about the date of usage? Did 16th Manchesters wear this insignia in March 1918?

Hi,

The information that I have just informs that the formation sign was being worn by the 16th Bn whilst they were attached to the 90th Bde.
