George Rayner Posted 27 April , 2019 Share Posted 27 April , 2019 (edited) Morning Tom The 1899 soldier wasn't in army long enough to qualify for a pension was he? So I think it must be someone else. His wife confuses me too-seen her as Mary in one document which I cannot find now of course and not Julia for whom there doesn't appear to be a marriage record. museumtom Posted 27 April , 2019 Author Share Posted 27 April , 2019 Good morning George, thank you for looking for him. I really don't have any other information on him. Only his death cert, he is not listed in the Cork Newspapers either. Thanks for all your help! Kind regards. Tom.
Dai Bach y Sowldiwr Posted 27 April , 2019 Share Posted 27 April , 2019 Good morning Tom, Can't help on this one I'm afraid. Perhaps the Soldiers' Effects register has something? I don't have access to it.

Dai Bach y Sowldiwr Posted 27 April , 2019 Share Posted 27 April , 2019 Having a look through the MICs on Ancestry, there are only 3 E* Looneys. One (Edward) may be the man you posted details of above, but I think not as he was dicharged in 1899 as being unlikely to become an efficient soldier.: View Record Ernest Looney Lancashire Fusiliers 18136 View Record Epenetus T Looney Royal Field Artillery, Royal Engineers L/27272, 250017 View Record Edward Looney Prince of Wales's Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians) 7517
Dai Bach y Sowldiwr Posted 27 April , 2019 Share Posted 27 April , 2019 Does this shed any light on the matter Tom: https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1911/09943/5614895.pdf
museumtom Posted 27 April , 2019 Author Share Posted 27 April , 2019 Thank you Dai, the marriage cert holds the key, he was pre-war soldier. I would not have though of the marriage cert, well done Dai! Kind regards. Tom.

The £5 15s war gratuity indicates the man never served overseas so there would be no medal records.
