museumtom Posted 25 February , 2020 Author Share Posted 25 February , 2020 Reply-' That entry on the cards is unreliable. It often says ‘serving’ when it is not true. In this case his record shows that he was a reservist at death. This means he was ‘technically’ serving (as a reservist) but was not embodied so does not meet CWGC criteria. Reservists do not qualify unless they were embodied at the time. So he can’t qualify as a serving man and there is no evidence that his TB was service related so can’t qualify as post-discharge. DO NOT always believe what is written in one source – particularly on the pension cards relating to ‘in service’ as many have proven to be inaccurate (or referring to men in reserves). You need multiple sources.'

George Rayner Posted 11 March , 2020 Share Posted 11 March , 2020 I DO NOT KNOW THIS IS THE CORRECT MAN!! But he is of the 'right age', was on HMS Surprise in 1909,...but completed his period of service in 1912 but could have gone to RNVR?
