Further to Post 663, I have just revisited the SWB Rolls of the Hamilton Infantry Records Office using Ancestry. I wanted to make sure that I had not missed any casualty lists in DA 0890-1200 (WO 329/3034) which I had previously examined at Kew and which Diane kindly posted for me (see post 457). I found 14 lists at Kew but could only find 6 of them on the filmstrip. I will let TNA know.

93606 Spr McArthur D is named in the Times OCL 07/08/1916 under RE wounded. This list HW 1907 is for a later wound in 1918. The service record for Dugald McArthur shows that he enlisted into 219 FC Glasgow RE and was wounded on 03/07/1916. He later served with 96 FC in 1917 and 513 FC in 1918 . He survived the war.

Further to post 679 in which I notified TNA that I had examined SWB Roll WO 329/3034 using Ancestry to make sure that I had not missed any casualty lists that I had found on a visit to Kew. I found 14 of these lists used as recycled paper when I examined the real thing but could only find 6 using Ancestry. I received a reply from TNA to the effect that if Ancestry digitised some but not all of them then it was possible that they did so in error. Do we as a Forum have any liaison with Ancestry and FMP. I think the importance of these lists should be brought to their attention. I have the impression that FMP would be more thorough.

Have you tried looking for these lists on FMP?

As I understand it, when their transcribers started to come across the lists on re-cycled papers they asked what to do with them and were told to list all the entries on every sheet.

Yes that is what I am doing at the moment. I am noting the names of the RE wounded from the Times (Digital Archive) OCLs for 1916 and searching FMP with the service numbers in order to get these RE lists. FMP has indexed those lists (and other floating documents such as leave records) that are found at random in various service and pension records but the casualty lists that are in the SWB rolls have not been indexed by FMP. I was about to start searching the medal rolls using the filmstrip on Ancestry to see if I could find any more unindexed ones and was disconcerted to find before I start that Ancestry has not digitised all of the ones that I found in WO 329/3034. I am looking for my RE grandfather and these lists are my last hope.

I did a FMP number check on 1633 RE looking for Ambrose Young and it came back with two previously un posted 1916 lists. List H 7379 April 1916 which shows A Young (I did not put the cross against his name) and List H 5915 February 1916 which shows 1633 Spr G Seabrook.
