Yes you are quite right, on the way to Cambrai, it would not be easy just to bump into them.

BTW that Michelle is wrong again......

Michelle, it's just a bit of banter, no offence of course...

It looks like I must reveal all. Bourlon is the place, just off the D16, on the right heading for Bourlon is 'Chem Vert' it is right at the end where Instant Street Views car goes no further.

It was found when investigating The Camera Returns No6 for Stand To! no24

Thanks for the info Bob.

If you like old ruins, there are several more within a few miles of Bourlon.:

Peter

PS Pete yes I agree, it's interesting what you can find rummaging.

Bob the lower one is ferme de Sauchicourt, on the edge of Sauchy Lestree. Action by 11th Manchesters, attached to Canadians, 27 Sept '18.

The lower one is in woods behind La Folie, south of Bourlon, was there a little while ago but having trouble finding it on google earth today, will have to enquire locally.

I imagine as a Lancy man you know the red roses emblems, 55 Div,  around Festubert.

I recently found another couple in a farm (bunkers in the barn) which are much less well known, possibly unseen by British eyes for a long time.

Pics attached.

Don't want to advertise them but if you are interested and do a trip over let me know and I'll give a map.

I hope your staff officer colleagues don't read this forum, and aren't you on the staff now? And as for the clue in three days you can cover several hundred km so it doesn't narrow it down much. All we can glean from that is that it's somewhere near the Yser, or have you been on a different three day trek?

Pete.

P.S. A waffle outlet has opened up within walking distance of Owls Towers but it is shut on a Monday.

héhé ... you got me...

there's a joke about that.. might as well share it. Two guys are in a balloon and are lost, so they go down to earth and encounter a walker. They shout down "excuse me, we seem to have lost your bearing, could you please tell me where we are right now? And the man on the ground answers "right now, you are in the nacelle of a balloon, hovering 10m above the ground and drifting slowly north east". none the wiser, the balloon goes up again and one man sais to the other : "that was a staff officer". "how do you know?" "the answer came promptly, he's absolutely right, but there's nothing we can do with it!"

as for my clue: the picture was sent en route on the 1st day of the 100km of Ypres. And it's not far from the waffles...

now it should be easy.

Nice sky!!

It's been quiet around here lately... good picture to get us started again.

I'd guess this is the Somme ?? The two crosses seem familiar

Are you going to spill the beans or is there a cunning plan to resubmit at a later date😁?

@Marilyne, not convinced it’s a second cross yet🤔

It’s not Somme, but close. The wisteria one was Danzig Alley.

initially thought the crucifix was the 12 Gloucester (Bristol) cross then looked closer so probably a local cavaliere

🤔 - any old film, or WW1 connections?

WW1 and 2, although set in WW2.

Might it be Lebucquière? There's a telephone cable and windfarm nearby, but streetview doesn't get close enough to check the cemetery features...

Richard

PS - I'm trying to find filming locations for the film 'Come What May' if that's the answer to the clue?
