Started mid April 1918. It’s not the Somme or Ypres.

Dainville perhaps?

Dainville definitely. A lovely place I hadn’t visited until last September.

It does look lovely - found some good 1918 photos of it via Google. Unusual to be hedged rather than walled!

thanks for the clue 😊

Well spotted Richard. I visited there in 1994 but didn't recognise it from Michelle's photo.

I was just having a hunt. It looks strangely familiar and I'm working on the premise that it's on a hill and not in a valley. Still haven't found it though.

Based on the previous spring photos you’ve posted, it could be somewhere on the Somme, but I don’t know where, southern area maybe?

Thanks @Michelle Young!

It has an immediate feel of the Lone Tree on the Loos battlefield. On closer inspection, though, this looks like a sycamore and Lone Tree looks more like a plane or chestnut. The power cables don't fit either, and the ridge on the horizon is very non-Loos. Off to the Somme next...

As my name is somewhat synonymous with Lone Tree, I can see where you are coming from, but no, it’s not there. Lone Tree is actually a cherry tree.

Bronfray Farm Military Cemetery ?

B*gger - I visited there but moved on  due to the absence of a building in the right spot!

Thanks @Michelle Young - I’ve now spotted a photo of it in blossom.

One thought on the new challenge is that we’re somewhere around the wind farms in the Guedecourt and Le Transloy area, but there’s a whole lot of roads there with no street view coverage. I ought to get on with some work as well, but I’ll try to look again tonight if Knotty or Dickaren haven’t solved it.

Done the self same thing initially, dismissed as no building on show, only to be told it was no longer there, so took a chance 😁

The photo was from the mid 1990's and all modern pics on the web do not show the building so I guess it was demolished.

It’s not on the Somme.
