Admin Michelle Young Posted 18 August , 2023 Admin Share Posted 18 August , 2023 Started mid April 1918. It’s not the Somme or Ypres.

Old Forge Posted 18 August , 2023 Share Posted 18 August , 2023 It does look lovely - found some good 1918 photos of it via Google. Unusual to be hedged rather than walled! thanks for the clue 😊 Richard

Old Forge Posted 21 August , 2023 Share Posted 21 August , 2023 I was just having a hunt. It looks strangely familiar and I'm working on the premise that it's on a hill and not in a valley. Still haven't found it though. Richard
Admin Michelle Young Posted 21 August , 2023 Admin Share Posted 21 August , 2023 Based on the previous spring photos you’ve posted, it could be somewhere on the Somme, but I don’t know where, southern area maybe?
dickaren Posted 21 August , 2023 Share Posted 21 August , 2023 This cemetery was started by the French in 1914. I believe the building is no longer in existence. Richard

It has an immediate feel of the Lone Tree on the Loos battlefield. On closer inspection, though, this looks like a sycamore and Lone Tree looks more like a plane or chestnut. The power cables don't fit either, and the ridge on the horizon is very non-Loos. Off to the Somme next... Richard
Admin Michelle Young Posted 22 August , 2023 Admin Share Posted 22 August , 2023 As my name is somewhat synonymous with Lone Tree, I can see where you are coming from, but no, it’s not there. Lone Tree is actually a cherry tree.

Thanks @Michelle Young - I’ve now spotted a photo of it in blossom. One thought on the new challenge is that we’re somewhere around the wind farms in the Guedecourt and Le Transloy area, but there’s a whole lot of roads there with no street view coverage. I ought to get on with some work as well, but I’ll try to look again tonight if Knotty or Dickaren haven’t solved it. Richard
