The Prussian Posted 26 June , 2019 Share Posted 26 June , 2019 (edited) Hello! I can´t read the entire text, but the card goes to a "Herr Goebke" (Mein lieber Herr Goebke = Dear Mister Goebke). The card is written at the training ground Elsenborn. Edited 26 June , 2019 by The Prussian

The Prussian Posted 26 June , 2019 Share Posted 26 June , 2019 (edited) Hello Charlie! Well done, mate! Here are a few corrections, if I may Haben Sie vielen Dank für Ihre frdl (freundliche) Zeilen aus Halberstadt. "Schein" is just a guess. In german it means just a paper according to a license. "gerade" = just Edited 26 June , 2019 by The Prussian
charlie2 Posted 26 June , 2019 Share Posted 26 June , 2019 Thanks for the corrections. Schein makes sense as there was a flying training establishment in Halberstadt. Charlie
GreyC Posted 26 June , 2019 Share Posted 26 June , 2019 (edited) The word after Flieger is Plan, written with a small or "deep" "p". As the addressee is a Leutnant Goebke he was probably trying to change from infantery or whatever to become pilot or observer. The sender is a Leutnant Vorländer, at home in Cologne Antoniterstrasse 24/25. GreyC Edited 26 June , 2019 by GreyC
The Prussian Posted 27 June , 2019 Share Posted 27 June , 2019 Ah, that makes sense too! Thanks a lot!
charlie2 Posted 27 June , 2019 Share Posted 27 June , 2019 I think it is a photo not of just IR68 Officers and NCOs. Judging by what is written on the back and what also looks to be different colour hat bands - Infantry, Engineers? and Cavalry? it was an all arms course of instruction. Surely not instruction in the use of binoculars Charlie
The Prussian Posted 27 June , 2019 Share Posted 27 June , 2019 Maybe a binocular-bourse? No, it will be a group of observers during a manoeuvre.

GreyC Posted 29 June , 2019 Share Posted 29 June , 2019 Hi, next time it would be nice to put it the "right" way up. Saves neck-ache ;-) He sends birthday greetings and hopes to meet again. GreyC
JWK Posted 29 June , 2019 Share Posted 29 June , 2019 May need some retouching here and there: Quote Liebe Mutter! Zu deinem Geburtstage sendet ich dir herzliche Glück- wunschen. Mögts du diesen Tag noch vielmals erleben Hoffentlich kannst du den nächsten schon wieder in Frieden feiern. Es grusst (Arthur?) Birthday wishes to his mother. May she have many more birthdays to celebrate. Hopefully she can celebrate the next one in peace. Interesting to see he adresses her as "du", and not "Sie"? GreyC Posted 4 July , 2019 Share Posted 4 July , 2019 Hi, he writes to his cousin that he his well, but not always as well as at the moment this photograph was taken. He is an instructor for 27 old recruits, his (3rd) company is now 300 strong and he compares it to a dovecot, as there is a lot of coming and going. The card was sent from Neumühl near Kehl. The Prussian Posted 4 July , 2019 Share Posted 4 July , 2019 Hello! Can anybody read the adress? I read 2.Kompagnie, Garde-Landsturm-Bataillon. But which Bataillon? The card was written end of September 1915. At this date only six Garde-Ldst.Btl. existed. Probably it will be Garde-Ldst.Inf.Btl. Döberitz. But its garrisson was the training ground Döberitz. Döberitz is crossed-out. I can´t read the "new" adress... The stamp says "Kork". Kork is a part of Kehl, that fits to the sender!

GreyC Posted 18 July , 2019 Share Posted 18 July , 2019 It´s not a hotel. It´s one of the quarters of the naval pilots and crew that did their service at the Seeflugstation Angernsee near Riga. They (nick)named this probably requisitioned home "Villa Fliegerheim". GreyC
