I did also wonder about that '7' or if it was a '1'. Out of practice with these things! Happy New Year! Julian

FROGSMILE Posted 16 February Share Posted 16 February (edited) Great photos of a Front we don’t tend to focus on so much, that in the East. I can’t help reflecting on what’s happening there now. I imagine that forum pal @Glenn J will be interested to see these images, thank you for posting them. The fellows with the low fez look like they might be from somewhere like Bosnia-Herzegovina? Their belt clasps look like some kind of unifying feature. Most military belt clasps of the central powers armies were rectangular, so these seem unusual. GreyCV Thank you GreyC, Bulgarians seem a good match, as they favour that type of headdress with feather decoration and also seem to have used a round belt clasp for some uniforms. The long tunics the men (officers?) are wearing have a special feature of very small, Hussar style cord fastenings at the top and also large loops overhead to hold them in place when worn loose over the shoulders like a pelisse. I particularly like the Hauptmann with the cigarette in his right hand. Not especially over decorated with just two peacetime awards; the jubilee medal of 1898 and the jubilee cross of 1908. Glenn J Posted 23 February Share Posted 23 February This postcard of yours depicting the Crown Prince in the field struck me as particularly interesting. Despite the less than great image reproduction, what really stands out is the shoulder cypher of the Königs-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 145 Unteroffizier two to the left of the officer speaking to the Crown Prince. The occasion of the photograph taken in the Argonne was the 9 July 1915 visit of the Crown Prince to distribute awards to personnel of the regiment. The KIR 145 officer with the regimental number on his helmet cover is Hauptmann Walter Freiherr von Wintzingerode. I have attached a clearer image of the principal actors.
