Thanks!

Off-hand, that is the lowest number on record. It is reasonably well polished, yes, but not as bad as some where you can't see maker or date! A realistic price also (no connection to the seller!) - my first one, bought in Oxford about 2014/2015 was around GBP90-100.

Dave,

Well done, that man! Again........you are clearly bucking for promotion....

Yes, the lowest serial number yet seen, and that could fit very nicely in the guardroom of the airfield

where I shall eventually park my Spitfeuer and/or Hurenkahne.

Regards,

JMB

[P.S. Later today, check the Smiling Tiger thread for a VERY low serial number.]

On a Pall Mall Wilkinson, date illegible.

Ebay right now.  Red background, and listing does NOT mention the RAF.  Amazing!

New or known?  I couldn't find the list.

Yes, that is a new one and I totally missed it!

I last posted the list in page 6 of this thread on May 28, 2019.

Will have to see about a cut-and-paste method , because I’m not up for retyping the whole list every so often.

JMB

I think a google document would probably be best, just set permissions so only you can edit it but any can view with a link.  Periodically (every page or so) repaste the link.

Also easy to search to see if one is already known.

Updated to today, list of RAF-marked bayonets.

Formatting has gone a little astray, but do not have time/patience to correct it, and it is quite obvious where the errant numbers fall in the sequence.

Since the numbers only trickle in now, I will not do an update for another year.

Thanks to all for your past and future efforts to collect these numbers!!

Regards,

JMB

This should be openable in Excel, and fix the format issues.  The forum doesn't allow Excel files apparently.

RAF BAYONETS - Sheet1.csv

It worked for me - thanks!

Been a while, but one very nice example popped up here….https://agmilitaria.com/shop.php?code=53170

Manufactured by Wilkinson in April 1915, has a nice 41 inspection stamp on the ricasso.

1E 4791.

Found on an Enfield Forum, quite by chance, a Vickers P1907 dated November 1918

marked:-      RAF  over 1 over 2279.

Oddly no letter stamp visible after the 1.

Mike,

Yes, another new one!

Looking at the table that I posted on Nov. 21. you can see that there are many Bayonets of the same type, i.e. no letter after 1.

Thanks for another new one! But, off-hand, if there is a 10% survival rate for Siamese bayonets (IIRC!), we have a l-o-n-g way to go with RAF ones...

JMB,

Forgot to say, the other side of the pommel on this one is marked:-    S.D.   over what looks like   77   .    2C, also carries the standard sold out of service mark.

Pictured on:-    enfield-rifles.com   back in 2015.

Unable to find any definition of S.D. abbreviation.

JMB probably off-line nw  - in the USA. We think it is Supply Depot. Is there a '1' before the SD? That is usual, IIRC. Got to go to a ZOOM meeting now...
