ss002d6252 Posted 11 May , 2019 Share Posted 11 May , 2019 Pensioned off as physically unfit but I can't see anything more than that - what did Bartholomew O'Leary die of ? Craig
charlie962 Posted 11 May , 2019 Share Posted 11 May , 2019 (edited) This page of his service record suggests his discharge disability was neither due to nor aggravated by service but he was awarded a disablement pension ? There were a specific class of men who were discharged as physically unfit under the Kings Regs and it was decided to award a pension (the logic seems to be that they had become unfit whilst serving, even if the service wasn't directly responsible, as the army would never pass an unfit man for service medically...) Often seems to have occurred where they wanted a man out fast - it's not the first cancer case I've seen it done for. I think many of the situations I've seen it used in by the War Office seem to be aimed at getting them out the door before the inconvenience of another death to deal with (or maybe I'm cynical). Regarding Michael Hehir, i'm afraid my Irish geography is as poor as you might expect. I can see a Killeen and a Kilkeedy, about 25 miles apart from each other in Clare, close to the Galway border. Am I on the right track?
museumtom Posted 11 May , 2019 Author Share Posted 11 May , 2019 Usually it would mean the Townland of Killeen in the Parish of Kilkeedy. They are all in County Clare.
