Ivor Anderson Posted 2 July , 2022 Share Posted 2 July , 2022 (edited) This man was discharged on 5 Dec 1917, but only aged 26 (Ancestry). Your man may have been a pre war discharged soldier? e.g. 5659 of 2nd RMF served in SA and was wounded in 1902 (enlisted 1897) Short service papers on Ancestry. He was from Limerick! https://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&dbid=1114&h=819337&tid=&pid=&queryId=b6c9e01994045cbedfe781a40fa2f849&usePUB=true&_phsrc=qzF96&_phstart=successSource EDIT - just seen the above RIF death fit! museumtom Posted 2 July , 2022 Author Share Posted 2 July , 2022 (edited) Newspaper article. Cut to Pieces.Ex-Soldier’s Sad End. Yesterday (Friday) morning some miles-men found the mangled remains of a man on the Galway line, near Monksland. After some time these were identified as a man named Clougher, aged about 35 years, an ex soldier, from Clonark district. How he came to be on the line so far remains a mystery, but it is thought he was run over by a goods train some time during the night. The Coroner (Mr Burke), Roscommon, has been communicated with and an inquest will be held. Clonark is in Cornafulla, County Roscommon, it seems there is another (the same one?) in Athlone, County Westmeath. May also be spelled Cloonark. Mark1959 Posted 2 July , 2022 Share Posted 2 July , 2022 A very brief ancestry family tree has a James Clarke killed on 6/6/19 by train. This, without supporting docs, says he married Margaret Mary McDermott, at Riverstown, Sligo on 19/11/17. It indicates witnesses were Martin Clarke and Mary Kate Begley
