Those are remarkable pictures, thanks for posting. I am struck with how young both men looked in civvies, pointing up the poignancy of their wounds.

Cheers, Pat

Members of the 5th Battalion, The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment), Territorial Force, probably at a pre-war Summer Camp.
It is interesting to see the men wearing the blackened brass Queen's cap badges, black "Rifles" buttons and the 5th Battalion "T" shoulder titles. Two of the men are also wearing shoulder protectors to stop getting rifle oil/residue on their service dress.

Many thanks for posting. I've never seen the shoulder protector before; and, like busses, two at once. Both south paw as well!

Great picture Sepoy, thank you for posting.  I too haven’t seen the SD pattern  of the shoulder protector before now.

Unusual to have a large group photo set indoors.  Presumably taken inside the RA Bks.  In the background there seem to be windows bearing some kind of armorial bearings like sometimes seen in a church.  Curious!

The man clutching his Wolseley helmet seems to be Rifle Brigade.

The piece of descriptive writing about the sea in post #7762 is superb. There is a Seaham on the Durham coats about 12 miles south of Sunderland with 2 beaches.

There’s a fantastic and very large WW1 statue there now.

Not a postcard but a large cabinet card. I am sure you can forgive me, as it is one of my favourites in my collection. Highland Light Infantry in India, P1903 Bandolier Equipment, Mk1 SMLEs with P1903 Bayonets, enjoy!1804628339_HLITrews.jpg.4e025fbb391e633fb2ad5031135c824b.jpg

Great photo.  There was a special order for all tartan clad units giving permission for shorts to be made from old kits or old trews cut down.  The latter seems to have been especially popular in the HLI as I’ve seen it before.

like this one, note the PWO feathers S/NCO arm badges, which I didn't know until now, are worn on both sleeves above the stripes.

Thank you for sharing.
