I was thinking the same thing, old friend. The bulge is I think his shirt billowing over the high waist. Common then, but not always understood now. FROGSMILE Posted 1 January , 2019 Share Posted 1 January , 2019 (edited) Superb picture Toby. It reminds us that there was no strict clenching of fingers, and thumb aligned along seams with the off hand at that time. Toby Brayley Posted 4 January , 2019 Share Posted 4 January , 2019 Royal Marine Light Infantry (RMLI) Maxim Detachment. Fantastic, unsent Postcard with great details of the Naval Maxims and Mounts. Note the variation in the, previously discussed, single breasted RM Frock.
FROGSMILE Posted 4 January , 2019 Share Posted 4 January , 2019 Superb photo Toby, I had not seen a frock without chest pocket flap before. It’s interesting that the frock seems to have been one of the earliest OR upper garments on which collar badges were worn.

Muerrisch Posted 4 January , 2019 Share Posted 4 January , 2019 A clever and valiant attempt to get everyone in the shot. Note Pte Halfcroucher grovelling about, front row near extreme right. Agonies of cramp? Wind?

I'm guessing 1916 as well, there is a place name in there but I can't understand it, something like "we've not been in knickers many days" Edited 5 January , 2019 by Jools mckenna

Muerrisch Posted 5 January , 2019 Share Posted 5 January , 2019 Thank you. The lad top right has both band and bugler badge on his own LEFT arm ....... unusual [I say no more] Top and bottom left men I cannot identify their badges. There seems to be enough metal on their shoulders to be TF rather than regular army, and TF could be a law unto themselves until pulled up by the annual inspection.
