Another we seem to have missed thus far.

I’m sure we’ve had him before, but a search revealed nothing. I take from this that the old, original WiT? thread has been, er, expunged.

Yes, I was surprised to see that he didn't turn up when I searched. Perhaps we did have him in the old thread. Still a good spot on your part though.

Yes, sorry Tom Waits was meant to be posted in the music thread....oops.

No not him, he’s from the Midlands (formerly part of Worcestershire), Tate I believe is Scottish, although this WIT has a fishy past.

Much the same here. However, I will take a guess and suggest that it is Claude Choules the last surviving combat veteran. Fishy because he served in the RN and Worcestershire because he was born in Pershore

Ok chaps, judging by the response I will add he was fishy as in he was a monger before and after, but this was not his main claim to fame. Don’t forget we are talking old Worcestershire 1914, so the town is now classed as West Midlands, and a very beach sounding area. Within a few minutes you should be able to march away with the answer

NB Featured on the Forum but not on WIT

I’m looking for a Music Hall impressionist, and the only one I can find is Nosmo King and it isn’t him.

Sorry UG, neverforget has named him.

John Thomas Judge, affectionally known as Jack, apparently took a 5 minute challenge and penned the famous WW1 marching ditty that the troops took to their hearts  “It’s a long way to Tipperary”, the chorus sung by many voices.

Born in 1872, a fishmonger by trade, moved to composing, then back to a fishmonger , he sadly died of cancer in 1938. One of his sons John was killed in Mesopotamia in 1917.

This link is from the Oldbury history and has a detailed 4 Chapters on his life.

He's in the extensive library under the "Music Hall star Sandwell WW1" section 😊

Here's one that I don't think has featured yet. I haven't found anyone with similar distinctions either. A most unusual record.20230131_190746.jpg.86f34c5ed287e255a90268e6d9014c87.jpg

He did put into writing his humorous account of the war, but unfortunately didn't get to finish it.
