Many thanks for posting the coloured RE8 diagram.

Here are another 2 RE8 photos, one of KGV inspecting an RE8 at the Front, and another showing the crew of a RE8 receiving their final briefing before take-off, the photo also shows excellent details of the rear cockpit mounted twin .303 Lewis Guns.

An interesting photo which shows the early deployment of the 17th Armoured Car Division in Cologne, Germany, immediately after the Armistice, which I know will be of particular interest to member Crimson Rambler.

The Photo shows men of ' A ' Squadron 18th Hussars guarding the road bridge over the River Rhine, South of the Hohenzollern railway bridge, at Bayenthal, which was a northern suburb of Cologne on the left bank of the Rhine.

Also shown guarding the road bridge is an Austin Armoured Car Model 1918 of the 17th Armoured Car Division, with its distinct vertical stripe divisional marking.

The photograph is dated 6th December, 1918.

Also attached is a 1945 photo of the destroyed bridges over the River Rhine at Cologne, the Hohenzollern rail bridge is shown up river, and to its South down river, is the road bridge at Bayenthal shown in the December 1918 photo.

The fluting (if that's the correct term?) is the cut-outs on the radiator and bonnet

At one of the Army Service Corps ( ASC ) Base Depots established in Northern France, ASC mechanics are seen salvaging parts from damaged vehicles. Salvaging was an important part of the ASC's duties, which was essential to keeping the Army's massive fleet of vehicles on the road.

On the left is a Vauxhall D Type, and we can clearly see the Vauxhall's distinctive ' Fluted ' bonnet and radiator design as pointed out in post #1138.

Hi Martyn

There is a new book on the subject coming out in a few weeks time. "British military trucks of World War One".

Here is a link to the sellers website, but you should be able to get it from the usual book stores.

http://www.tankograd.com/cms/website.php?id=/en/British-Military-Trucks-of-World-War-One.htm

The Tankograd book on British WW1 Trucks is now available. I ordered a copy on Friday from http://www.bookworldws.co.uk/british-military-trucks-world-p-6158.html

Price is £35 plus P&P but it is a limited edition of 999 copies only.
