I have copies of the following Dress Regulations for the Army if this helps anyone's research

1857

1874

1883 VII

1894

1900

1904

1911

1934

and some  after WW2.

Thank you. The problem area seems confined to other ranks, and my trawl  of their Clothing Regulations over the centuries focussed on ranks and badges, not the clothing on which the mystic icons and tokens were sewn. Thus I only have CR 1894 and 1914 complete. It might have to be Cambridge Uni Library again.

Some of them are wearing 1908 pattern web belts, others appear to be wearing a narrower belt but with a 1908 style buckle. I've not seen that type of belt before.

It's very likely to be an OTC pattern belt, which was very similar to the modified waist belt created by converting shoulder braces and adding a Twigg buckle: http://www.karkeeweb.com/patterns/1908/1908_belts.html

I think more like Shurley. Several candidates. There is a GF Shurley looks a good candidate, prev 15334 disch 1915  also 20012. Not him, discharged epilepsy.

Various riflemen and cavalrymen too.  The sergeant looks a bit pretentious with his waxed moustache, pistol with cross brace and highly polished leather gaiters. Clearly Iiked to style himself to be more like an officer at first glance.

What a great job has been done to fashion Charley's seat into a wheelchair, and what care has been taken to keep his injured leg cushioned and warm.

But 2 wound stripes at least and is that 1914 Star ribbon? No overseas service chevrons on any right sleeves. Does this date photo?,

Even idiots get wounded, but I understand what you meant.  The presence of specifically Labour Corps (later Pioneer Corps) badges date the photo to at least 1918, I would say.

Interesting that there are several economy jackets in the photo if that late.

Yes, and also the modified waist belts created from converted shoulder braces.  Although perhaps not new when issued to them (there was a refurbishment programme at several ACDs, with rows of women 'repairers' sat at machines), the simplified jackets seem to have continued in service through to the end of the war, especially perhaps at home.

I recently received the postcards below from the Renner, Hall and Benton sides of my family.

I am unsure where the last photo came from, it could have come from either the Renner, Benton or Clark(e) side of my family, no one knows! It is not WW1 and is stamped on the back Aug 1940 but i thought it may be of interest to someone. The only members of my family i know who served during WW2 served in the Gordon Highlanders and the F.A.A.ws10.jpg.b71e3ede7461dd77773ea75b8d655b56.jpgws12.jpg.1e10b4cf6c84a721d49f71312392329e.jpg

Thanks for looking,
