Ralphed Posted 2 November , 2010 Share Posted 2 November , 2010 This thread is excellent. I love looking at other peoples photo's and the questions raised by some of them are facinating. The group shots really interest me.Pals clubbing together to have their picture taken is a real moment in time. If nearly a century later someone posts a picture of a relative in group shot with some of their pals and another member has the same picture and they could name another person in that group, how great would that be ? I will sort the few pic's that i've got and post them soon.

Jack Johnson Posted 3 November , 2010 Share Posted 3 November , 2010 Cracker of a photo of four Gunners, late war? Lovely to see a more natural, informal portrait of a group of mates. Interesting to see one chap in baggy service dress trousers, as issued, a couple of the others with very tailored 'drainpipe' versions of the same! All unknown. Click on the photo to see it larger in my flickr account.
Andy Wade Posted 3 November , 2010 Share Posted 3 November , 2010 Twisted that picture a bit, to swing the badge around. Anyone care to take a guess? They're from post #434 and #435, by the way.

Andy Wade Posted 3 November , 2010 Share Posted 3 November , 2010 Andy, it is T Y DERBYSHIRE, first photo I have seen with this title. Yes, I can see that now. Well spotted. I could make out 'SHIRE' but not much else, except the T of course. That twisting facility works quite well with these shoulder badges, which are almost always oblique to the viewer in these sort of pictures. The bell tent in the pictures in post #444 reminds me of my youth as a member of the Boys Brigade. We always had to roll the conort up at the start of the day to air the tent out. One of the jokes was to send a younger boy off to fetch a conort roller.
