trenchtrotter Posted 22 October , 2010 Author Share Posted 22 October , 2010 Robins...the tunic looks to be a "simplified" often termed "economy" tunic. It had no rifle patches to the shoulder, no pleats to pocket and I believe was one piece at the back. Issued to speed up production when uniforms were short, however seen in images taken throughout war. Hope that helps. Also ditto re the West Yorks chap and unit flash. Keep them coming. FROGSMILE Posted 22 October , 2010 Share Posted 22 October , 2010 A post WW1 photo showing the later pattern Queen's West Surrey's collar badges. From his hairstyle perhaps early 1930s.
FROGSMILE Posted 22 October , 2010 Share Posted 22 October , 2010 what pattern/date is this tunic?? He is wearing the economy pattern tunic of 1915 (Deeper chest pockets with no pleats and no reinforcing patches on front of shoulders) and is quite 'likely' to be in one of the Service Battalions raised by Kitchener. FROGSMILE Posted 22 October , 2010 Share Posted 22 October , 2010 East Yorkshire Regt. Pte. E. Booth Another simplified pattern tunic, this time with a leather belt from the Slade Wallace pattern of equipment that was more usually worn with pre-1914 full dress. Interestingly, around his shoulder he also has what appears to be a hand woven rather than WD issue lanyard for a pocket knife, or watch.

Andrew Upton Posted 23 October , 2010 Share Posted 23 October , 2010 Another nice group shot, again a burnley photographer,I assume the trousers indicate a scottish regiment ? . Looks like it, in trews and with the jacket front cut away to facilitate the wearing of a sporran when in the kilt. Must have had a hole in his sleeve though, those Corporals stripes are very low (normal place is basically half-way between the top of the arm and elbow).
