stiletto_33853 Posted 29 August , 2009 Author Share Posted 29 August , 2009 Hi Kit, I believe these were the date on which the list was compiled rather than the date of wounding. Have not been able to find your grandfathers medal index card, if you have this there should be reference to a List on it, do you have the number?? it should read as List M/????. sotonmate Posted 21 February , 2010 Share Posted 21 February , 2010 Diane I am in awe of your work here and hope that you have the answer to a long-standing question on one of my interests, who was wounded somewhen from 1916 to 1918 (!!) and I haven't as yet been able,in the normal process, to identify his Battalion. He was discharged as a result of wounds in 1919,having been transferred from his action Regiment to the Middlesex Depot for an unknown period ! He was: Private 3577 W S STEER of the Queen's Royal West Surrey. I have deduced that he entered a war theatre after 31.12.1915 and then emigrated to Canada in 1925. I hope you can put me out of my misery/frustration ! Best wishes and all power to your typing fingers ! Sotonmate

stiletto_33853 Posted 22 February , 2010 Author Share Posted 22 February , 2010 Not hoarding Diane, just not on here often these days and got tied up in other research. I do have a fair few more of these lists to get off to you and will do when I can. Andy
Guest Posted 22 February , 2010 Share Posted 22 February , 2010 Agree with you Sotonmate, excellent work by Diane, Andy and other contributors. I wonder how many forum members have seen a man they are researching on the list. Out of 65 men, I have found 2 wounded, pretty good for a small town, and excellent information. Dewar, and Clogg. I would never have known Pte William Clogg had ever been wounded in the back, but for this thread. Keep up the good work. Cheers Mike

David_Underdown Posted 18 October , 2010 Share Posted 18 October , 2010 Only just come across this thread. When I was researching 12234 Harry Jones Cheshire Regiment, I noted in passing that some of the pages of his file seemd to consist of reused casualty lists (noted at Description of files relating to Harry Jones (1873-1918), sash window maker, soldier. I should still have the images - though it's possible I didn't bother saving the ones not directly relating to him. There are links to the relevant Ancestry urls on the page linked above however.
