Hi Doug,

I note you are also a member of Ancestry, could you also look him up on there, as I see they have some WW1 records?

Thanks for your help.

Bob

Hi Bob,

Nothing in the pension or service records that fit him but this is his MIC.

Good afternoon Doug.

It the offer is still going on the look up's.can you find anything on this fella, CHARLES,PAYNE.(Private) GS/52095.

Royal Fusiliers. The war diary says he was killed on the 24th March 1918,but I have my doubts because he doesn't show up on S.D.G.W. or the C.W.G.C. records.I have an idea he may have survived the war or was taken prisoner and the diary entry was written up in error.Hope you can help.

Best Regards Andy

I have been meaning to say that anyone seeking a death certificate reference for a soldier killed in action, I would be pleased to look for it on Find my Past.

Regards

Ryegate

Are you still able to look up a death cert index at Find my Past? I'd be grateful for anything you can find for Alfred G Sheil born in Guernsey abt 1873. I found a death record and CWGC record showing an A Sheil of Royal Irish Regiment died 24/08/1914 but a certificate may help confirm I have the right man.

Many thanks

Many thanks Doug.

Can you explain please

"HAY James, Rank Pte, Number 10300, Unit R.S.F., Year 1914, Volume I.8 Page 138"

I obtained a copy of James' Death Certificate from Scotland's People, but it was merely a page listing himself and all others who died that day (23/10/1914).

Is that what the Volume I.8 Page 138 is?

Hi

Are you still able to supply GRO refs for overseas deaths? I require a ref for Private Thomas H B Spours, DLI, KIA 11 Nov 1916. Battalion histories show not a lot going on at that time and we've always wondered how he died.

Thanking you in anticipation.

No, it should be an actual Death Certificate - but keep in mind that given the circumstances it may only show the cause of death as 'Killed' etc.

Hi Melody,

AMC Miller does not appear to have been killed. He is not listed on SDGW or the Death Index. He does not appear as yet in the service or pension records on Ancestry.

I have no resources for WWII.

Here is the MIC for AMC Miller.

Hi Sharon,

There are only 2 deaths for Spours but I am not sure which he is:

Spours, Robert, Pte, Number 21/22, D.L.I., 1917, I.36, 303

Spours, Thomas, Pte, 19/877, Durham, 1916, I.35, 25

To make it even more confusing SDGW records:

Name: Arthur Spours

Rank: Private

Number: 21/22

Regt etc: Durham Light Infantry

Batt etc: 14th Battalion

Enlisted: Sunderland

Died Date: 03 Dec 17

Died How: Killed in action

Theatre: France & Flanders

Name: Thomas Spours

Rank: Private

Regt etc: Durham Light Infantry

Batt etc: 19th Battalion

Born: Sunderland

Enlisted: Sunderland

Died Date: 11 Nov 16

Died How: Killed in action

Theatre: France & Flanders

Thanks for that Doug, mine is the second one you've found. The other one is a cousin of Thomas from another side of the family.

Thanks again for your help.
