kevyn Posted 28 December , 2007 Share Posted 28 December , 2007 Dear Ryegate, Could you please look up two brothers for me. Walter Myhill service No 7787 West Yorks Reg. (Prince of Wales Own) I believe that he died in York (30/8/1914) and buried in Cemetery there. William Myhill service No 6372 West Yorks Reg. (Prince of Wales Own). William is a long shot as i can't find much info on him after 1914, so he may not be in your records. Many thanks Kevyn
Ryegate Posted 30 December , 2007 Author Share Posted 30 December , 2007 Kevyn Details are: Name: MYHILL, Walter Regiment, Corps etc.: Prince of Wales's Own (West Yorkshire Regiment) Battalion etc.: Depot. Last name: Myhill First name(s): Walter Initials: W Birthplace: York Enlisted: York Residence: Rank: PRIVATE Number: 7787 Date died: 13 August 1914 How died: Died Theatre of war: Home Supplementary Notes: Death cert ref not listed in 'soldiers killed in Great War' but I am pretty certain this is him listed in BDMs. Aged 26 York 3rd Quarter 1914 9d 35 You are very lucky as William is on the Ancestry pension records. PM me your e-mail address and I will send the pages to you. Ancestry states 12 pages to this record but page 10 appears to be for another William Myhill in the Norfolk regiment. Certainly the first 9 pages belong to William Myhill from York and No. 6372. Regards Ryegate

Tuntun Posted 22 January , 2008 Share Posted 22 January , 2008 Doug, thanks very much for the info! I had no idea that Frank Singleton had previously served in the Notts & Derby Regt as a Territorial. What is SDGW? Has your CD been created from a book or a number of original sources? Where can I order the death certificates from? Thanks Martin
Procat Posted 23 January , 2008 Share Posted 23 January , 2008 Hi Martin, SDWG is an abbreviation for Soldiers Died In The Great War. The source documentation is 81 volumes that were published in 1921 embracing every regiment and corps of the British Army and listing almost 662,000 Soldiers and 41,000 Officers who died in the war. You can order the certificates from the GRO at http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ Be warned, the information they contain will probably be minimal.
