julietee Posted 8 September , 2007 Share Posted 8 September , 2007 Hi Doug I am new to the forum. Hope the following information is enough for you to look up my great uncle: Private Walter Grange 202855 Sherwood Foresters (2nd/5th Bn) Notts & Derby Reg. Died 18/6/1918 Grave: Cologne Southern XI.A.21 Any information greatly appreciated. My aim is to find out how he died whilst he was a POW. The family were told of two alternatives - officially disease, unofficially an exploding munitions truck. Any ideas on how I should start my investigation? chaz Posted 9 September , 2007 Share Posted 9 September , 2007 Hi Julie, If Im correct , you can apply to the International Red Cross for possible reasons of death while interned. I forget the link but there was a discussion on the forum somewhere as one of my great uncles died as a POW in Germany.

VicMill Posted 9 October , 2007 Share Posted 9 October , 2007 Hi again I've returned to this thread as I've got no further in finding my Alfred Butcher listed on the Frittenden Memorial & Roll of Honour and I'm not sure either of the ones that Kevinaka found for me are my man (post #376) If it isn't too time consuming, would some kind soul be able to look him up for me with a residence and/or place of birth as Frittenden? Could the same search also be done for an F Martin, who is on the village memorial, but not the roll of honour. Many thanks. VicMill
