would it be possible for Pte A E Butcher 204477 of the Royal West Kent be him?

According to his MIC, 204477 A E Butcher's first name was Albert, so probably not your man.

Many thanks for looking Doug.

He appears on a church memorial but I couldn't find him on CWGC either.

Have found his MIC where he was awarded a Silver War Badge along with BWM and VM. If he was wounded and then transfered back to the UK but then later died in hospital for example, shouldn't he still appear on CWGC?

Thanks again

Ian

Hi Ian,

He wasn't KIA - he is recorded on the "pension records" on Ancestry.

If you PM your email to me I can send the images to you.

Hi Doug

Is your offer of a LOOKUP still on? If so I am trying to find out some more info on my mum's uncle James Alexander. Reg no 9199 1st Bat Seaforth Highlanders. Died 13 Oct 1914 and burried at Meteren.

Any further info on whether he died on the field or of wounds, what battle/s was/had he been involved in.

Also my mum's dad, Thomas Alexander Reg no 9157 2nd Bat Seaforths, bullet wound in left forearm sometime during WW1, and treated at BRX (Netley).

Both brothers were born in Inverness, Scotland and would have enlisted at Fort George I think.

On behalf of everyone, many thanks for all your hard work on this.

Kind regards

Alison

I can only give you information on James Alexander, presuming that your Grandad survived, the database is Soldiers Died in the Great War. You will need to post in soldiers for more information on which action James was killed in

Born-Inverness,enlisted Edinburgh, Killed in Action.

Hello Doug,

thanks for looking, it is appreciated.

How common is it for a soldier to be on the CWGC site and not on the SDITGW cd?

regards,

Pete.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I noticed that Sapper Jones died 4 days after the armistice. Does SDGW use the same dates for inclusion as CWGC or does it cut off on armistice day?

Pete

I don't know how common it is for a name to be on CWGC but not SDGW, I have version one so he may well be on the updated version.

Charels Edward Bontoft

Killed in Action.

The cut off date is 31 December 1921

Kind regards,

Andy
