Alan

I think last year you put the agenda in the Calendar. Easily accessible for all

EDIT: 2010 actually

In my experience arriving a bit early at a pub is not too much of a problem as they will probably sell you a drink while you wait for the diligent, hen-pecked, confused, halt and the lame, feeble-minded etc to show up. Friday lunch-time arrival seems about right to me.

Hi you lucky ones,

Would love to join you all for this event as apart from the talks, it would be especially nice to meet some of the GWF members whose titbits and other bits I read so often on these pages... Sadly, not to be, but DO have fun, and I'll raise a glass (or more) of Efes in your general direction at the appropriate time!

I suppose half of the forum will be belting off to Birmingham this weekend to enjoy 24 hours of non stop WW1 talkies.

I dare say a lot of us Aussies would like to be there too, but sadly it is just a bit too far to travel for a weekend.

However in place of being there myself I wish all attendees have a great time and a safe journey where ever you come from.

I'm sure we'll all be raising our glasses to absent friends during the course of the day.

We're just about to set off, if anyone's in the bar of the Premier Inn, Hadley Road around 6 pm we'll see you in there for a drink before setting off to the OC.

No doubt forum pal, River97, will represent you all. Andy finds himself in the UK for family matters and is taking a break by joining us.

I look forward to meeting him and any other In From the Cold volunteers. You'll find me at wherever the book sellers are pitched.....where you'll also find "Not a Rotter in the Lot" on offer at the bargain price of £17.

We're just back from the OC - the hard core forumites have headed for a curry but not us. A great turn out at the pub including Messrs Baker, Pugsley and Sheffield. Plus my brother was wearing his shIny new shoes. So see quite a lot of you tomorrow!

Will be leaving in just over half an hour, enjoying a cooked brekkie to fortify us for the journey.

Looking forward to a very interesting day. Speakers Sheffield, Baker and Pugsley, and the rest of the forumites I met, were on top form at the OC last night and we are in for a real treat for content today.

Cheers,

Simon

A terrific conference and proof that GWF is home to the greatest scholars working in our field. The speakers were truly excellent and the discussions which surrounded them, and the day, were of the highest order. As a post-script I would just like to add that any offensive or nonsensical opinions expressed by Simon J are not my own, but those of Peter Hart.

Cheers,

Simon

PS The greatest kudos to Alan and Sue for organizing logistics for such a mighty throng. It was faultless. Thank you.

I would like to add my thanks and congratulations to Alan and everyone else involved for organising such a great day. And the previous evening at the OC was excellent too!

My compliments also to all the speakers who provided a good balance of interesting and thought provoking topics.

It was good to put so many faces to forum names and have the opportunity for some very interesting discussions. I am particularly indebted to Simon J for his insight into the motivation of crack German stormtroopers

A memorable day!

Yes it was a fabulous event, Well organised, Great to meet other GWF members. All five speakers were very talented specialists in their own fields, and felt I learnt a great deal. Thank you to Alan and Sue and everyone else who helped to organise the event.
