it would seem you had a great tour major spiller, bet the bike went quicker than your car

your friend willy

Methinks it made no difference.

On the other hand you have to be slow if you want to see and find something. It was a great trip.

International Trench: Next round ...

This is not a modern sculpture of "Bugs Bunny" ... B)

... but what's left from a German gas-shell.

The picture below shows the area in 1917.

International Trench: No olympics please ... ! :D

After the dig was finished we spent an hour or so in the pub in Pilkem for a drink.

For the coming day we made sure that two of De Diggers - Ronny and Frans - would accompany Major Spiller on ...

... another attempt at finding the big craters from June 7th 1917.

After dinner Ronny arrived at Mell's and Fransie's house.

We went off and after passing Ypres we took the road to Lille.

We came to Sint Elooi.

One of the 2 remaining craters of 1916 we found in no time since Ronny had prepared us as best.

Below the picture an aerial and a map which show the big craters from 1916.

Numbered as 1 to 5 from the right to the left the Germans called them "Trichter 1, Trichter 2, ... Trichter 5".

The now following pictures are from Crater ("Trichter") 2.
