stevew Posted 2 May , 2007 Share Posted 2 May , 2007 I love the pictures of Oude Molen. I can't say I have ever seen it, looking on autoroute, I have probably been down the N301 and drivn right past it. That's the problem when I'm the driver and I have to spend all my concentration driving on the wrong side of the road you tend to miss things Steve
Malte Znaniecki Posted 2 May , 2007 Author Share Posted 2 May , 2007 20th of April 2007 From Langemark German Cemetery we went back to Fransie's house. Mel spent a superb meal to us. Having arrived at this stage - my dear friends - nearly everyone should have thoughts like "what a great day is going to be finished now". But there is need for something to tell you which might help you to understand why this day did not finish on a sofa with a drink and some good talks and making new plans and so on ... As to read above I visited the IFF Museum at noon. When Major Spiller comes to a museum he surely will not leave it without carrying paper stuff home. So he did it this day too. When arrived from there at Fransie's home we spent an hour or so viewing the new books I efforded at the IFF Museum's shop. Amongst this stuff there were - just for example - two maps of Heuvelland and the Messines Ridge. Also there was a very good book about what had happened "beneath Flanders fields" during the Great War. Craters ... We had to look after them. Tomorrow ... Oh no ! Not tomorrow ... This evening ! Now ! This way Frans and I went off again, looking forward to find the big craters on the Messines Ridge. One we found was at Hill 60 Copyright: M. Malte Znaniecki Posted 2 May , 2007 Author Share Posted 2 May , 2007 20th of April 2007 The following hour - sun was down - we spent looking for more craters. We came to Wytschaete, we explored the roads up and down from the village, but we did not find any more craters. Lastly I made the final suggestion to drive on the top of the ridge right towards Messines (just for having a better overlook on the many, many craters). We reached Messines and passed it. Not even one crater ... Lastly we found a tower situated at a little southwest off Messines - named to an Irish town. This Frans-Malte-crater-sightseeing-trip had to be finished at the Ulster Tower . Malte Znaniecki Posted 3 May , 2007 Author Share Posted 3 May , 2007 20th of April 2007 Ulster Tower: Lastly we found a kind of "crater" just having a look upwards inside of the tower. After that we drove home to Fransie's house. Thank you Mell and thank you Frans for another unbelievable good day I was allowed to spend with you !!! Copyright: M.
