Ladies and Gentlemen,

When visiting the Somme, I can unreservedly recommend:

Otago View,

48 Rue Principale,

80360 Flers

Tel: 0033 3 22 85 47 23

www.fieldsoffrance.com

Owners: Peter and Hilary Smith

The offer an excellent B&B Service, battlefield tours, cycle hire, and will provide evening meals if requested.

My son and I visited recently, and were immediately impressed by the warmth, and general "helpfulness" of Peter and Hilary - nothing was too much trouble. Peter is an avid collector, and is well-versed on all things Great War, my family and I will definitely be booking with them again.

We've stayed at the Campanile on the outskirts of Peronne - simple, clean motel-style hotel with decent bistro attached - good base for Historial and touring. Not as small/personal as a B&B (we stayed at Varlet Farm on same trip) but very covenient with the bistro onsite.

Hotel Campanile, Peronne.

Route de Paris, 80200, Peronne

We checked availability and booked online via www.campanile.com

Y P R E S

My wife and I visited B&B HORTENSIA, 196 Rijselsestraat. The new owners are Véronique and Michael, a charming young couple. Their B&B is near the Lille Gate, so only five minutes walk from the Grand' Place and ten minutes from the Menin Gate.We had a very nice room, airy and light and no noises from the street outside.

Véronique does an excellent breakfast (with scrambled eggs !). Free parking round the corner.

Their garage can house up to six motorbikes and they have bicycles for hire.

The website is www.bbhortensia.be, their address os bbhortensia@hotmail.com, their mobile telephone is 00 32 47 38 48 407.

They work together with Charlotte of Varlet Farm. She also has plenty of room for motorcycles and bicycles for hire.

Varlet Farm : www.varletfarm.com , info@varletfarm.com , telephone 00 32 51 77 78 59, 43 Willemstraat, Poelkapelle.

In fact, when we contacted Charlotte for a room, she said that she was full up and she recommended Véroniqe and Michael of Hortensia.

What better recommendation can you have ?

All the best,

Fred van Woerkom

TonyE and I went to the unveiling of the Tunnelers Memorial at Givenchy-lès-la-Bassée last weekend and stayed at a delightful farmhouse B&B that we can certainly recommend to forum pals. La Niche at Vieille Chapelle/Richebourg is ideally located for access to Fromelles/Aubers/Neuve Chapelle/Festubert in one direction and La Bassée/Lens/Loos/Arras in the other.

A warm welcome from the owner, Catherine Dronkert, beautiful surroundings, comfortable rooms and the free use of a television lounge, dining room and well-equipped kitchen, plus a barbecue and garden tables outside, made for a most enjoyable stay. The generous continental breakfast includes delicious home-made jams. For nature lovers, there is even a pond with resident water voles.
