Guest Posted 27 December , 2007 Share Posted 27 December , 2007 Do you have anything on the man below? I am particularly interested in the circumstances of his death and whether he was still serving at the time. He is not listed in 'Airmen Died' and so I am presuming his was a post-discharge death and he is a potentially uncommemorated casualty. Any information would be appreciated. F/20 Leading Mechanic George Warren Herbert Biddle RNAS Died 09.12.14 Hi Terry, I have nothing of his death at present but will investigate. If he had been discharged prior to his death then there was little time lag from when he was with the Balloon Detattchment at Dunkirk in Oct1914 for which he was awarded the 1914 Star with clasp. Will post anything new as soon as I get it Regards Duncan

It is very faint but seems to indicate that he was discharged Shore on 9th December 1914. Also his 1914 Star was never claimed and was returned to the Royal Mint in Mar 1934. Thats All I have for now but will keep looking.

Jonathan Saunders Posted 23 March , 2008 Share Posted 23 March , 2008 Hi - good to see this important thread still going strong. Do you have any information on F4430 George Smith DSM, KIA 18/03/1918. A bit of travia - he is buried next to Lt JA McCudden MC - younger brother of Jimmy McCudden. The coincidence is that in August 1914 Jack McCudden and George Smith lived only a few miles apart and now rest next to each other. Jonathan Saunders Posted 24 March , 2008 Share Posted 24 March , 2008 I have visited his grave but didn't notice his neighbour Many thanks for info. St Souplet is a bit out of teh way bit next time you go look out for McCudden and also TE Lawrence's brother is over the far side of the cemetery. As far as I can remember it was originally a German cemetery but after the Armistice the German burials were moved and it was used as a concentration cemetery by the British. ALDAWSON77 Posted 12 July , 2008 Share Posted 12 July , 2008 Manicafan. Barke02 has been tasked with cataloguing a series of negatives that were discovered behind a fireplace. Could you assist in identifying one of the subjects. The photo is labelled Windsor and he appears to be wearing an RAF uniform with RNAS cap. spidge Posted 13 July , 2008 Share Posted 13 July , 2008 Hi Duncan, I am collecting photographs of headstones and memorials of all Australians who died in WW1 in the AFC/RFC/RNAS/RAF and all those in the RAAF and Australians in the RAF in WW2 and inserting information on each as I come across it. I have extracted from certain search engines, a number of RNAS who died and are classified as UK on CWGC however they have an Australian connection. Could you please advise if you have any details on this group.
