I was just visiting my father-in-law and he has a Johannisbeere bush, which made me think about how it looks when it's full of fruit. It's self-contained and doesn't need tying up. But grape vines can be a real mess and so to me it seems more logical that it really is grapes. Also, from a closer look on the map it appears that Strassburg isn't really part of modern Schwaben, although Wikipedia says Schwabisch and Elsässisch/Alemanisch are related dialects.
