Sad Brewer - Thanks for the reply.

From Saturday 'evening' to Sunday morning Thomas supposedly rowed single-handedly from Torbay to Portsea Island.

That's 50 miles in open sea across

The journey emulated a traditional 'coxed-fours row undertaken by some of Sir Walter Raleigh's men who wished to join the fight with the Spanish Armada. Back in the day, many teams roved from Plymouth to Torquay and then onto Portland in order to join boats at Weymouth to counter the invasion. This was no task for a single rower, even though at least two of them attended Uppingham School and rowed for the school.

The boat's owner, George Brown, was by now somewhat richer. His evidence simply does not add up! This is known as 'witness tampering'.

Further the Reverend Henry Williamson was not their blood father - which has finally been proven. (John Quarrington).

George (26), Cregoe (25), Leverton (21) and Thomas's ''old man' was a well-known criminal boss from Plymouth.

A fifth son Dalgety (14) was perhaps the cox.

The father was a partner of the notorious Adam 'Moriarty' Worth, an American forger. They brought The Pinkertons over to London from NewYork for long spells, to help Scotland Yard. (Ben McIntyre - The Napoleon of Crime). The locals on Portland knew full-well in 1909 that it was murder, but the poor old Rev. was put up to deny it in Torquay, along with his 'son' George.

The following year another of 'The London Gang', Julian Hippolyte Sarpy of Peckham died suddenly at the age of 50. His family strongly believed he had been poisoned. However, a Coroner's Inquest could not endorse that. The motive for his killing was the same as poor Thomas, and Levy benefitted from it, inheriting his stamp collection - which turned out later to be mainly forgeries!

In December 1888 'the father' had poisoned Frederick Carkeet Bryant of Plymouth, who died at Woodlands Park, Stoke Stoke d'Abernon, Surrey aged 46.

Now the girl (Lansley?) in the newspaper cutting who died by suicide - where and when did this happen?

If Dalgety Edward Ommanney was around at that time, then his family had previous - and lots of it!

I would seriously doubt that it was a case of suicide!
