Guest samanthabuk Posted 12 May , 2005 Share Posted 12 May , 2005 What a very kind man you are looking these up. I would be so grateful if you could see if you have anything on Douglas Lane Evans, 6th service battalion of the Northamptonshire regiment (2nd ltnt made up to captain) died Sept 1916. A picture would be fabulous if you have one. Many Thanks Samantha

SOMMESOLDIER Posted 10 June , 2005 Author Share Posted 10 June , 2005 Hi Blackie, I see there is a difference between CWGC who go along with 23-8-14 and SDGW who state 10-9-14 ! I see that the 4th Middlesex are your interest, so are you saying SDGW are correct ? Cheers Tim.

Cheers Tim. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> For some reason I had put into my file the date that SDGW threw out at me, and ignored or missed Lieutenant T. S. Woolcombe's Diary entry which makes a mention of C Company taking only a few casualties except for one platoon under the command of Lieutenant Wilkinson which was never seen again. Wyralls book also puts Wilkinsons death as the 23rd of August. I would assume that SDGW was wrong. Just goe's to show time spent checking is never wasted. I wonder how SDGW ended up with that date?. SOMMESOLDIER Posted 11 June , 2005 Author Share Posted 11 June , 2005 Hi Blackie, That information is very interesting. I have come across many differences between the two databases and it has always interested me, how the differences come about. I can understand a difference of a few days or dates being back to front or the year being wrong and such like. It just goes to show that all research is a complicated issue !!!! Thanks again for the information. Cheers Tim.
