sandyford Posted 8 March , 2005 Share Posted 8 March , 2005 Tim Thank you very much for looking. He is an ancestor of a friend of mine and I was hoping we might find something about his previous career and perhaps even a photograph. He is proving very elusive although I have found out about when and where he was wounded from the War Diary. Kate

JulianB Posted 12 April , 2005 Share Posted 12 April , 2005 Dear Tim, I’ve tried in vain to obtain a copy of the CD compilation of officers who died in 1916, so I have to rely on your kindness to help me out. My problem is that I have a number of photographs of officers originally in the 16th Bn Kings Liverpool Regiment, which was a training battalion, when my grandfather and gt uncle were with it. The snag is, of course, that there are no captions. Anyway, trawling though their letters I have come across a number of names that might refer to these people, transferred of course to other battalions by mid 1916. I’ve tried to identify these people on MIC and then looked up if any of them were killed. I’m also interested to see the others who were killed with gt uncle on 18-8-16, so the queries I have please, are the following: Arthur Clifford Cook, 4th Bn, KIA Robert Glynne Davies, 4th Bn KIA 13.8.1916, age 29 Charles Pendrick Gaulter, 3rd attd. 4th Bn, KIA 18.8.1916, age 23 Bertram Wallace Gray, 4th Bn KIA 18.8.1916 aged 22 Claude Pendarvis Goodman, 4th Bn KIA 18.8.1916 John Coulson Hannon, 3rd attd 4th Bn, KIA 18.8.1916 Graeme Stuart Montgomerie Galloway, 4th Bn KIA Edward Gilbert Nickalls, 4th Bn KIA 18.8.1916 Bertram Noble, 22nd, Bn KLR attd. 16th Bn Lancashire Fusiliers, KIA 23.8.1916, aged 28. Edward Glanville Podmore, 9th Bn, KIA 25.9.1916 Allan James Spencer Simmance, 4th Bn KIA 18.8.1916 Hugh Alexander Small, 20th Bn, KIA 11.7.16, aged 25 Leslie John Varndell, 4th Bn, DOW 18.9.1916 aged 28 William G Whitely, 13th Bn, KIA 16.8.16 age 22 Geoffrey Elisson Wilkinson, 20th Bn, KIA 30.7.1916 Is there, by any happy chance, such a compilation for 1917 ?, as I would also like to identify the following; Louis William Alexander Back, 4th Bn KLR kia 23.4.17 aged 19 Harry Ronald Hubble, 3rd attd 4th Bn, KIA 20.5.1917 aged 26 Anthony Herbert Sharpe, KIA 25.9.1917 George Frederick Maynard Thomson, (Bn unknown) KIA 19.5.1917 Basil Welwyn White, (Bn unknown) KIA 8.4.17 And finally, I’m not sure if any of the following officers were killed, but they were all commissioned into the 16th Bn KLR and again, some of my photographs may be of them WJB Harris NL Taylor FA Fyfe TT Owen F White William Maitland Walker, with very many thanks Julian
