Following that logic then you presumably don't agree with people using research services, buying books on the Great War or going on tours to the battlefields. All the people who provide those services are making money out of the Great War. Neil
Dragon Posted 15 November , 2016 Share Posted 15 November , 2016 1 hour ago, Phil Wood said: Why should ebay bar people from selling a second-hand poppy? Because... in the words of Ebay: "We are not permitting resale of the limited edition Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red ceramic poppies on eBay. Any listings attempting to sell these items will be cancelled before any sale takes place. Our marketplace is not an appropriate venue for the limited edition ceramic poppies in view of the significance of each individual poppy as a memorial to an individual British military fatality." SiegeGunner Posted 15 November , 2016 Share Posted 15 November , 2016 As a professional translator specialising in 20th century military history, I make money out of the Great War. I have also made money out of WW2 and even the Holocaust. I see no reason whatever to feel uncomfortable about that. On the contrary, in fact, as I think that my work, over 30+ years, has helped many people to better understand elements of the history of those conflicts that would otherwise have been inaccessible to them. Dragon Posted 15 November , 2016 Share Posted 15 November , 2016 (edited) It has, and so has the generous use of your skills numerous times on this forum and in private. I recently commissioned Fourteeneighteen Research to do some work for me and I was very happy to pay. I don't have the skills or knowledge to carry out research as efficiently as someone who knows exactly what he's doing and the cost of travelling from here to London would have been astronomical in comparison. I don't see where there is an ethical issue as long as the charges or profits are proportionate. Gwyn Edit. PS Chris's company did a great job too.
