Not unusual among units pre-war. Have photo's of the 1st Volunteer Bn, Northumberland Fusiliers who have "1/V/BOMB/NF" woven in red on their first pattern SD jackets.

I also have photos of pre war cloth 1 V & 2 V being shown, but this is not pre war and is the only photo that I have seen which shows C.S.R. when normally the title says Civil Service Rifles. JG

Also seen OTC titles woven into shoulder straps and would say that virtually all of the Volunteer Force from late 1916 had woven titles in their shoulder straps.

The title shown is unusual as at this time it would actually have been "T/15/LONDON" in blackend brass. Post 1908 I don't think individual unit titles were worn by battalions of the London Regiment in SD, but suspect that they were probably still being worn(and woven) with full dress by those units with KRR & RB affiliations.

Possibly another transport man certainly mounted, the spurs give that away, the title is impossible to read, but a nice view of the patch.

Note the patch at the top of the sleeve at this time 12/HLI were with 106 Brigade in 35th Division.

The CG numerals, according to IWM, were roman scarlet on drab.

Ortho film should show scarlet as DARK in the middle of pale, so I doubt if numerals.

Yes, I have seen, I, II and even III like that, I just wondered if it was a variant for a reserve 'feeder' battalion, but that was grasping at straws. Are we back on the possibility of it being a rose? All the 'men' seem to have it, irrespective of rank.

Hi Graham, it is unusual but I do'nt think we can say it would actually have been "T/15/LONDON" when photo's show different. I also have photo's showing just Q.W.R. or Q.V.R. both with no shoulder titles. The London Rifle Brigade in 1915 introduced a green L.R.B. on black cloth to replace the T/5/CITY OF LONDON, there is a photo somewhere showing both being worn. Also earlier on in this thread there is an exellent photo of a chap just wearing the L.R.B. title. Regards John
