m0rris Posted 13 January , 2014 Share Posted 13 January , 2014 If my research is right and the photo is in the correct area. One of the ladies could be my Great grandmother. The one standing is a spitting image of my aunty. I've had a further look and this photo is from the IWM collection. The women are both WAACs and it was taken at the cemetery at Abbeville in 1918. patrick Eggs Posted 15 January , 2014 Share Posted 15 January , 2014 It is very interesting following these post card photo's, shows a good record of all the various uniforms of the men, I have not seen a Tank corps man yet. So this one of 3 very tidy men of the 17th. Armoured Car Battalion Tank Corps transfered to Ireland in Jan 1919 after completing their duties in Calogne, the man on the right is my Father, the other 2 always appear in our family photo's but I do not know their names . As you can see this was a studio shot by C. H. Knight of Limerick. Crimson Rambler

patrick Eggs Posted 15 January , 2014 Share Posted 15 January , 2014 Hello, yes I think it is , all 3 saw plenty of action with the 17th AC, all 3 have a wound stripe ,but in my Father's case that was picked up in the MGC.HB in Tanks in Nov.1917. In March of 1919 he was Apptd. CSM. Crimson Rambler
trenchtrotter Posted 18 January , 2014 Author Share Posted 18 January , 2014 CFA / CGA? Unknown. Note Div patches and the fact he is wearing a British 02 pattern tunic, quite common after arival in France / Belgium. Penned to the rear..."Elsie, with fondest regards, Peter" At least he has a first name and is not completely unknown. TT
Jerry B Posted 20 January , 2014 Share Posted 20 January , 2014 On its way to me, the Welsh Regiment, said to be marked on the reverse with a Pembroke dock photographer mark. Interesting to see some in belt kit with fixed bayonets. I wonder which Bn they were.

mrfrank Posted 28 January , 2014 Share Posted 28 January , 2014 This was a photographic postcard I found in an antique shop a few years back of a group of Grenadier Guards enjoying some down time with a short written message to the reverse 'Field service order - plenty of beer, t-total now'. Could do with one of those jugs myself!
anthony osborne Posted 29 January , 2014 Share Posted 29 January , 2014 Just come across this classic thread - don't know how I missed it? Some great snaps. The drawn expression on the veterans faces is quite marked. When I get to my computer I will post 2 images of 2 of my relatives taken at the start and towards the end of their participation in the war - the contrast is very noticeable! m0rris Posted 31 January , 2014 Share Posted 31 January , 2014 Postcard of Artillery School circa 1915. Great uncle, seated with pale shirt & tie, training before joining the 1/1st Welsh Carnarvonshire (TF) Heavy Battery RGA. Does anyone know where this is likely to be? Grovetown Posted 31 January , 2014 Share Posted 31 January , 2014 This was a photographic postcard I found in an antique shop a few years back of a group of Grenadier Guards enjoying some down time with a short written message to the reverse 'Field service order - plenty of beer, t-total now'. Could do with one of those jugs myself! Nice early shot that, showing a mixture of the twisted cord and detachable shoulder straps (1902-1904) and twisted cord shoulders (1903-1904). Cheers, GT. SFayers Posted 31 January , 2014 Share Posted 31 January , 2014 86073 George Lingwood, 155th Siege Battery, R.G.A. (The man with the coiled wire). Superb photo. Intrigued by the date reference - August 6th 16; 155 Siege Battery didn't leave the UK until later that month, and from his service papers George Lingwood was an original member of the battery. Assuming the photo was taken 'in the field' (going by the helmets being worn), I wonder what the significance of the date is? All the best Steve

trenchtrotter Posted 2 February , 2014 Author Share Posted 2 February , 2014 My latest ebay success.......KRRC. One can see the red felt backing behind the cap badges on some. Some have metal s/ts others have none. Some wear the utiity pattern jacket others the 02 pattern. One can see field dressings bulging in thier pockets so obviously France / Belgium backed up by Carte Postale on the reverse. There is one Cor Blimey" cap, some 02 pattern caps and what appears to be a later "denim" cap as well as the serge versions with stitched peaks. I date this image late 1917 / early 1918? Wish I knew which battalion......... TT
